Holy crap does my car create alot of brake dust. I washed it saturday. I cleaned the wheels like there was no tomorrow. Parked the car in the garage and it was looking very very nice. I took it out yesterday and by the time I got home there was already quite a bit of dust on the front wheels.
Well the front brakes are used more often than the rears and are larger. Brake dust is a downfall of these soft OEM brake pads, which also gives the rotor's firepath a nice shine. If you want less dust switch to ceramic pads, but be prepared for your rotors to turn a nasty color.

The ceramics create dust, too - but the dust is much lighter in color, as opposed to the black. I run Hawk HPS pads with Wilwood rotors, I get dust, but if I wipe the wheels down every couple of days it's not too bad. Also with chrome wheels, the dust seems to come off easier.

I have Raybestos Ceramic pads. They create much less dust and the dust is lighter in color and does not show up nearly as much.
I pull my wheels off and wax the whole rim. I have the stock polished aluminium wheels. I do this about every 3 months and the brake dust does not stick on them as easy and they are much easier to wash and shine up.
I just put eradispeed rotors on. I chose to stay with the stock pads for the rotor shine and better stopping. I don't mind cleaning wheels. I'm much happier out in the garage anyway!

I've been doing the same thing... polish and wax the rims just like the rest of the car, and the brake dust won't stick much.

But be assured you still have some dust with ceramics!
