just wanted to share, i just did my first oil change on the vette and it was pretty easy until it came to the oil filter.I didn't have the wrench that removes it so I had to do it by hand and it was pain.It was stuck so I had to take a screw driver and hammer it in and used the screw driver as a handle to twist it off.

OMG, you're sick!!! This is a Vette not a '78 Pinto. Maybe you should of took a hacksaw to it. Just by curiosity how did you get the new one on???
I have four different types of oil filter wrenches for the many different configurations of oil filters I need to remove. I believe I use the one with the nut and square hole at the bottom when I remove my C5's filter. However, in years past (with other vehicles), I have used a screwdriver when the right wrench was NOT available. The filter case is surprisingly thin and is easily punctured by the screwdriver tip.
I had to do that for the first oil change on my '04. I have one of those wrenches that fit over the bottom and I just couldn't turn the filter with it. The damn thing was on way too tight. Screwdriver worked great!
Here is a trick I learned from sticking oil filters on my boat. Don't use oil on the sealing gasket, use good old Vasoline or grease. Vasoline is cleaner to use & your next filter change will be a plesant suprise!
