Default Anyone Have This?

I posted before regarding a sunscreen for the glass top, but I couldn't locate the thread. After purchasing the static film from MidAmerica, I was directed to this: http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.61
Does anyone have it and were you happy with it? My main question is ...What does it "clip" to? The car or the roof panel? I emailed MidAmerica, but no response so far?

I have one, but I wouldn’t recommend buying one, as I’ve never been able to use it. It doesn’t fit worth a damn. It’s too large for the opening and will not install, no matter how much you bend and tweak and force it. I’ve read where some other members have taken theirs to an upholstery shop and had it cut down to fit for about $50. Eckler’s told me that they plan to discontinue the item as they have had too many complaints about it. They wouldn’t take mine back, as it was in their opinion “not still in like new condition”, as I had bent it every which way trying to get it installed.

To answer your question, it has flat plastic tabs sewn along the edges and you have to force the tabs into the gap between the Lexon plastic and the metal roof frame. The plastic tabs are about 2” X 4” and there’s about 6 of them sewn along the edges. The black adhesive window sealant that’s already in the gap gets all over the plastic tabs and makes one heck of a gooey mess when you pull the panel back out. In my opinion they’re not worth the money or the hassle.

Gotcha. Thanks. I had a feeling they were too good to be true. You suffered for me. I appreciate that! I bought the windshield sunscreen, rear cargo cover thing-a-ma-jig and the static roof panel watch-a-ma-jigger. MAN!! My guess is about $14.00 worth of nothing....for which I am now too embarrassed to say what I paid. I saw a previous post for the definition of "Corvette." To me, it means, Come Here and We Will Sell You Over Priced Stuff That Looks Like Something You Might Want.

Just go for the static cling (with or without the pin holes). I works great pretty cheap and it can be applied or removed in seconds. I've got the pin holes and it really brightens up the interior; plus it shades the passenger compartment (since I live in soCal if works great).

Just my $0.02 cents

i've never tried the static cling film, but i bought one of the clip in types when i had a c4...i was traveling at highway speed with the windows down when enough air got under the thing, and it blew down on top of me...i got the car off the road, threw the thing in the back, and stopped at the next convenience store and threw it in a trash can...don't waste your money....

I have the headliner that is on the thread you gave. I do not like it. It never fit right. I even did some triming and still could not get it to work. I purchased the color matched top for summer use and only use the glass top in the winter to keep the car warmer. I think the static one might be better at least from a fit aspect.

I have obviously one (since I directed you to that site ). I can't speak for the one Eckler's sells, but it may be the same one. The insert has plastic tabs that slide in between the black frame and the lexan. It's rather clever.

It was recommended to me by Blue Lion on the forum. He said that rumor had it there was a bad batch of them that didn't fit. Mine fits perfectly in the opening. It doesn't exactly follow the contour of the roof, so it's more flat than convex, but it's not an issue, unless maybe you were 6'5" and your head BARELY cleared the roof before. If it bothered you, you could get a little piece of velcro and stick it to the glass, then it would look AND feel factory!

I've heard quite a few complaints about the static 'cling' ones not clinging so well after time, which I why I went with the one I did. Driven with the windows down and dont' think what was described above is possible on a C5. I'm VERY happy with it.

Just put on the static cling blocker w/ the pin holes in it. There are some bubbles, but I'll try to smooth it out when it heats up. Looks pretty good. Embarassing fact: I've had the vette for almost a month. First time I ever took the top off.

It sounds like it is too late now, but I have one the inserts mentioned earlier.

It works just fine. I did trime the plastic tabs that fit under the trim frame. It may appear to large, All you do is flex it into position.

Sometimes you want it dark, sometimes you don't.

I've got the static type and it works good. It's been on for over a year and looks as good as the day I put it on. I don't know how much it really works as far as heat, but it'll probably help out the interior with UV.

The heat did help. Took a credit card and smoothed it out while it was hot. Anyone thinking of this.....I like it. Fits well and still lets some of the light thru because of the pinholes.
