Anyone make a quality carbon fiber hood anymore?
I like the MCM carbon fiber low rise hood but I understand they no longer make them. I know they make a cheap version that is not as good. Does any company make a similar high quality carbon fiber hood?

if you are looking for a clear hood that shows the carbon weave, I would avoid them in my opinion. I have had terrible experience with clear/carbon products fading and clear cracking etc....on factory carbon peices and also aftermarket.

I think forum vendor Corvette Creationz (member Quik Z06) makes a similar hood (Carbon ZR Hood) but I'm not sure of the quality/fitment of it. A number of forum members have bought that hood, so hopefully they will chime in and tell you about the quality.

not that I have seen.....I always see people who say they have one that looks as good yet they never show you the crappy underside.
BTW I hear that car is a beast now....can't believe you wanted them to crank up the boost again...

Cheap non-UV resistant epoxy resin is what causes the yellowing and cracking (you see it a lot within the import scene; not an insult just a fact). There are several manufacturers who produce a crystal clear epoxy resin that fully resists the damaging effects of UV radiation exposure. I am sure high end manufacturers like ACP and Apsis are aware of this and use it on their carbon fiber body components, but you would definitely want to ask them before purchasing.

While I never regret a word of friendly advice, as others have said, the clear coat is not a universal fail with age.
I once hit a car show and Calloway's personal car was there. The custom body was full orange carbon fiber, but the really impressive thing was the matching of the weave as the cloth was mated together down the middle of the car, just like a fine shirt matches the pocket design.
That was many years ago, and then last year I saw the car at an auction on TV bringing big money. If there were UV body damage, I think it wouldn't have sold well.

Hey pewter99 long time no see. Yea we got the car up to around 800RWHP but the clutch started slipping so we settled for 750RWHP. The car is a scary fast now considering the last time I drove it was pushing 340RWHP. Are you guys still meeting up?
