You may want to consider an Optima type battery. The Delco is prone to leak acid on the electronics, and vacuum lines (directly under the battery tray)

I replaced my original 2000 Delco with an Optima Red Top in November.

with teh 2000, you'll want to replace it with something else .. whether it be an optima or not you're model year was prone to leaking.

This battery, 78-7Yr, is listed for numerous vehicles, including some 2006 models. I seriously doubt that this is the same battery used in your 2000, or my 2000. I would bet it's an improved model.
I, also, am on the original. So far it has been the perfect battery. Aug will be 6 yrs. It is wrapped in a foam covering.

The original owner of my 2000 replace the Delco in late 1999 with an optima battery, as insurance. I recently replaced the optima with...

... another optima. The replaced optima still was going strong, but I figured with all the miles on the battery, and with the good deal I got buying it from CostCo, I'd just replace it.

Really, it's very cheap insurance compared with the replacement cost of the computer.

Consider the Optima Red Top. Very good battery - I've had mine for 3 1/2 years with absolutely no problems.

At 6 years and 62,000 miles my battery is also showing signs of it's near pending doom. If I leave the radio on for about 15 minutes with the engine not running... it turns over very slow when I try to start it.

Maybe I'll take care of that on Monday before driving to the Cruise-In.

I still have the OEM battery on my 2000 C5, 17000 miles. I think it died once or twice a couple years ago because I went 3 weeks without starting it.
Im thinking about getting a new battery, but this one has not leaked or totally died. Today will be two week since I started it. Its a beautiful day, so im sure Ill fire it up and take it out for a run. If the battery is not happy today, Ill replace it before the winter. My wife has a 2000 Montana with the OEM battery. Its a daily and it starts every day. 70000 miles

tried the optima red cap but returned it because it was to small for the battery box and when tighening the hold down bracket the battery slid around , is there a special adapter for this ?

Here's some info on holddowns from the Optima site:
http://192.132.24.107/UsingOptima/height_WCM.asp

The 34/78 is the larger between it and the 75/35.
