I just bought my first C5, a pre-owned 2000 that has a 12 disc CD changer. I notice nothing in the owners manual about being able to play a single CD in the dash mounted player if you have the changer.
The changer works fine but I can't seem to play a single CD.
Is this normal??
I have a 12 CD changer in my 2000 cpe. I have a tape player in the head unit. In order to go from one to the other you need to hit the "tape/Aux" button.
You might want to try it. Or look to see if the CD magazine in the changer was installed correctly.
Thats odd. I have a 2002 Z06 and I installed a 12 disk changer. I can use both the changer and the single cd player in the head unit. I can hit the cd/aux button on the head unit and it alternates between the cd in the head unit and the 12 disk changer. Hitting the number 5 button changes disks in the disk changer.
I just noticed that someone mentioned about hitting the cd/aux button twice to change between each other, I dont have to do that, I just hit it once.
I tried the Aux button and still get an Error message.
Try disconnecting the cannon plug on the back of the cd changer and then try your head unit again with a cd in it. This way it will take the changer out of the loop just incase its causing some compatibility issue. If you still get the err thing, then I would guess somethings wrong with the head unit. My changer is a pioneer unit, which was what the factory would have supplied had it been equipped. But the Z06 didnt have a changer option, so I ordered it and added it after I bought the vette.

Sounds like you have either a disc problem or a head unit problem (pray for the former!) Try this. Load another disc (one from a regular source that is pre-recorded for example) or take one from the rear magazine and try it in the head unit. If you have the Delco in-dash CD head unit it does not have an "aux" button. To play the in dash CD just press the "CD" button once. To play the rear changer, just press the "CD" button again (maybe other way around but you get the idea). One way to know when there is an in-dash CD playing is to look at the display. It will show track only. When any of the CD's in the rear are playing, the display will show the disc number and track number. My money's on a hinkey disc. HTH
I have a 2000 vert with in-dash cd player and 12 disk in trunk. Plays both just fine. As was said earlier, you select which you want to use with the AUX/CD button. I'm pretty sure the instructions for it are in the owners manual. I'll check for sure later.

I have the factory equipped Cd player and it DOES have the button labeled "CD/AUX". I also have no problem playing CD's in my dash or in my 12disc changer. All I have to do is insert a disc into the dash and it will take priority over the changer and radio and start to play instantly. I am convinced that the other forum members are correct in suggesting that you have a head unit problem. Maybe time to upgrade to a NAVI system???

Oh ya..... West Houston here. Katy to be exact.
:bb Oops! I stand corrected. I don't know why exactly but for some reason I was thinking that the Cassete version had the "AUX" designation and not the CD version. Thanks
