I have an 04 and do not plan on many mods. Before a bunch of you chime in about "oh yeah, right" I have been down that road spending over 30,000 on my Mustang. Like the Vette as it is but, would like just a little more ohmmf down low. I bought it used and the only real mod is a Borla Stinger 4 tip cat back. Anyone have any idea of what kind of increase to expect with the Stinger or Blackwing? Also has anyone with either of these ever had any problems with a warranty issue at the dealer? Thanks for any response. Oh yeah; it is an MN6 Coupe
I got the Stingers and the Blackwing. Got the Blackwing first. I felt an immediate improvement. Then I got the Stingers. They sounded great but really didn't feel that much of an increase in HP.
In my guesstimate, I would say both of them increased my HP about 20.
A stinger exhaust system will get you lower gas mileage because it's so much fun to hear the LS1 roar. You will not see an improvement in HP numbers until you add some performance headers and x pipe.
The Blackwing is awesome, the quality is excellent as well as the fit and finish. You can't go wrong with a blackwing. No wonder GM hired the makers of the Blackwing to make the filter for the C6 Z06!!!
You do get so much more for your money with the Halltech Stinger-R (huge airbridge and smooth TB coupler in addition to the massive Warhead filter). The larger airbridge and TB coupler could come in handy down the road if you further increase HP, but for now, see my sig for RWHP increases with the same mods.

Not at all. You made a great decision. I am saying that the Corvette tax doesn't apply to the Halltech Stinger-R - something we can't say for other intakes. How could a filter alone be worth $250? I wondered the same thing when I chose the Stinger-R, which comes with the rest of the "system" in intake system. Granted, the Blackwing is a great filter as well. It's just that it should cost $100, not $250 in my opinion.
My comment about further increases down the road means that with about 300-350 RWHP, the biggest "bottleneck" is primarily the intake box. Once you start pushing more than this amount of HP, other components become the "limiting factors". For example, the stock exhaust system isn't too restrictive in the sub-400HP range. However, beef up the engine to crank out 500 HP and the exhaust becomes a major restriction. The same holds true for the intake system, since the engine is primarily a huge air pump - the larger/more powerful the air pump, the larger the plumbing going into it should be. Unlike having too large an exhaust system, however, a larger-than-necessary intake system won't change the torque curve of the engine by any significant number. Rather, a larger than stock intake system improved output now and later, should the "air pump" be induced with more power.

NO doubt, get the Blackwing. Stinger gives you a free air duct, but if you're talking about the filter quality, you can't beat the Blackwing. I just changed my stock to Blackwing last week. Took 20-30 minutes for installation... even thats too long. You should be able to do it in less than 20 mins. And I felt the instant power gain. Car runs much smoother, nimble, and feels lighter (for some reason). Get it, and you'll thank all of us here...

Actually, Jim Hall diassembled a Z06 engine that had a Warhead filter installed on it for more than 20,000 miles. The intake and engine components were spotless - proof that this filter (same filter included with the Stinger-R) does an incredible job of keeping damaging debris out of the engine.
Don't assume that only Donaldson makes good filters. They do charge more, but this is primarily because they possess a popular name and therefore can get away with the extra-high price to consumers, nothing more. Fram sells more air filters than any other company, but this does not mean that they are unmatched in filtering ability.
Either will work... The thing I like about the Halltech Stinger though is that it gives you a high flow airbridge.. The Blackwing is just a big filter that keeps the stock bridge. The Blackwing filter is a lil bigger than the Halltech Warhead filter that comes with the Stinger.
BTW I have the Halltech Stinger and 2 of my friends do as well.. I like it..
