Default clb question really important

does the dealer have to remove the front tires to do the clb recall? i dont think so but heres the problem. i had the rcall done aug 04 with 1600 miles on the od. after i got the car back when i made a slight turn i felt a little bumping like in the steering wheel. i didnt think anything of it and stored the car in nov. my 03 ae vert hasnt had any work done on it since that time. i still felt the bump from time to time but never took the car back to the dealer. well on friday i left for carlisle a 2 hr trip and everything was fine going down i left home with 2100 miles on od. well coming back home it started out as a shimmy in the steering wheel and by the time i got to hazleton, which is about 30 minutes from my house, the steering wheel had a real bad shimmy in it and when i slowed down to get off I81 i heard some bad noises coming from the front end. when i got home i checke my tires and lugs only to find out that 4 out of 5 lugs on the drivers side where loose enough to take off with your hand and 2 on the passenger side where the same way. sorry about this being so long but wanted to explain everything. know what i need to know is if the dealer only tightened the lugs and forgot to torque them then they are responsible or could there be a defect in the lugs or the lug stud or both. i took the wheel off and checked the bolt holes and the are fine (not ovaled out any) put the wheel back on and torqued the wheels to correct specs 100ft/lbs. im still going to the dealer tomorrow but depending on what i find out from this thread will determine how i approach this problem. i think to be safe i want the lugs and studs change on the front tires. imput please. thanx brad

The CLB does NOT require removal of the wheels.

Are you sure that your wheels were not loose prior to the dealer visit?

When was the last time work was done requiring remaval of the wheels - that may provide a clue as to a possible cause other than the dealer.

If it was the dealer, go after them.

the CLB all done from inside the car ... under the dash
The only reason to pop the hood is to disconnect the negative battery terminal

the other work i had done was at 1100 miles when i had powder coated calipers and ceramic bake pads installed so all the wheels were off at that time. if the lugs werent torqued correctly at that time could it take 1000 miles for them to loosen up that much? thanx brad

After you've had the wheels off the car, especially aluminun wheels, the lugs need to be re-torqued after 50-75 miles. It then doesn't hurt if you do it again after another 50-75 miles.

If yours were only "hand tight" after 1000 miles, I'd suspect that they weren't tightened correctly (100lb/ft) from the begining.

Most likley the dealer did not remove the wheels, as it was not required.. Most likely were not torgued to spec from the brake work.
