My 2000 Corvette FRC came with Custom/Import Magnesium wheels as an extra option on the invoice. I am the 2nd owner of this car. I jsut saw OEM replacements in Corvette Central catalog (page 84) listing them for $2, 799.00 with hardware. I was just curious if anyone knew how rare these wheels are and what they might be worth in mint condition and low miles.
Magnesium wheel have been an option on the C5 for several years with a price of $2,000 or more. Can be bought used for around $600 to $800. There are a few nice pictures of them here on the forum.
The mag wheels are not in themselves rare, However the mag wheel option on the FRC is unusual!!!. Two years ago there was a FRC in the special collection at Bloomington Gold. It was there because of the Mag wheels. I dont remember the exact number but it was something like less than 10 left the factory with the wheels.

In 2000 there were 2,652 total but there were only 138 on the FRC.
I've got a set for my MY 2000 vert coming out from powdercoating this week. Will be glossy black with yellow crossed flags on the center caps, the original yellow "Magnesium" on the outer rim and maybe a yellow "Corvette" on one of the spokes.

You can buy a set of take-offs in very good condition from WCC for $1200.00. I'm betting that the price you referenced from Corvette central includes tires...but I'm not sure.
With this fact in mind, I think you should keep the wheels. The wheels themselves would probably bring less than $1000.00 but the price of the FRC with the wheels would be a more desireable package if you went to sell it.
Unless you need the money I would hang on to them. There weren't many made so someday they should be worth something.
As these become more and more rare, the price will just go up. I understand they're very susceptible to stone/rock chips so mint condition ones like yours will be worth more.
