Default Changing oil before storing. Change again in Spring???

**I edited the subject line in the hopes of getting to the real question. Do you change your oil again in the Spring (when you just changed it before storage?)**

Hi all. Ready to store the Vette. I do "soft storage" - meaning I keep it ready to hit the road and try to drive it a few times throughout the winter (when roads are very clear) to keep things lubricated. That's a full warm-up and true run.

Anyway, my storage prep is always 1) change oil 2) add Sta-bil to full tank 3) park on pieces of carpet to prevent flat spotting 4) smart battery charger 5) lexol seats 6) inflate tires to 40+ pounds.

Now my question - does everyone change the filter when they change their oil for the winter (considering you're just going to change it again in the Spring)? Or, the real question, is changing the oil and filter necessary again in the spring anyway?

Thanks everyone!

Every time I change my oil the filter is part of the process.

I always change the filter when I change the oil. My rule of thumb is change the oil every 5,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first using Mobil 1 and UPF filter.

Default 3000 Miles for me...

I change my oil every 3000 miles and of course always change the filter.

By the way, I also have four magnets which are about 1/2 inch wide and three inches long. I place these on the filter. After first time I did this and changed the filter, I cut the filter open. I was amazed by the amount of very, very fine metal along the side of the filter where the magnets were located. You can buy after market magnets for this but the ones I purchased cost about $1.00 each compared for up to $50 for the aftermarket.

No need to change out the filter in the spring.
The purpose of changing the oil before sotrage is to get rid of the combustion by products that contaminate the oiil... These contaminants are water and acid.... together over time they resuslt in corrosion and etching...
Changing the filter and putting fresh oil in before storage removes the contaminants.

Default Thanks...

I guess my question is then, because some are saying once per year or 3000 miles - should fall (before storage) be the only real time the oil is changed? (I only drive it about 1,500-2,000 per year) It seems a bit silly to dump perfectly good Mobil 1 in the spring that I just put in before storing. But I'll certainly do it if it's recommended. Small price for peace of mind.

Similar situation, except I do about 5000 miles/year. So if you are going to change it once/year, are you better off to get the cycle to be just before winter? Mine sits through the months of Dec. thru April except for occasional good days in between.
Thanks.

Default Quick edit made

Quick edit to the original question:

Do you need to change your oil in the Spring even though you just changed it before storing?

I change mine out as I put it away for the winter then when spring comes, I just start it up and go. I too use Sta-Bil in the gas.

I just changed mine today. Start her up, let her warm a little bit and park her for the winter. No reason to change it again in the spring unless you store the car underwater. Let's hope it's a short one. I'd much rather be banging gears than riding the Ski-Doo.

The C5 Corvette Owner's Manual and GM Service Manual recommend changing the oil and filter when indicated by the oil life monitor system or every 12 months, whichever occurs first. Change both before storage and you will be fine to go come spring.
