today i was riing with my dad in his 2004 c5 vert and we were at a light an this nissan altima se-r wants to race us. how stupid can u be to do something like that. Has anyone here ever had an encounter with some stupid guy in a sedan try to race ur vette

 

Well, there are numerous sedans out there than can kill a C5 in a stoplight match, but the Altima sure ain't one of them.

The Altimas actually run mid-low 14's,but that obviously not gonna compete with a vette. They're actually pretty rare,the SE-R's that is.

 

i saw a mazda suv run 13's at the track on friday. a couple grand under the hood of an SE-R and you're gonna get walked if you're not careful. there are civic hatchbacks out there that'll blow the doors off of anybody. the v-8 under the hood doesnt make u invisible.....but yeah, look out for that minivan

I had a neon filled with teens try to race me in my 2000 coupe. I just laughed hard and let them win.

Before we had the vettes we had a BMW Z3, and this old guy in a miata at a stop light started reving up his engine. I guess he thought the two cars where similar. Ha! My husband started laughing, but when the light turned green the miata floored it. My hubby couldn't resist, so we blew the miata's doors off. Now I tease him about driving around town looking for Miata's to race with.

 

yeah he used to have an 2002 zo6, ran a quarter in 11.9@118 bone stock, an e55 tried to race him one time, and beleive me what magazines say about the e55 being faster than the zo6 is bull crap, he totally got owned, and he was not a bad driver at all. i wish he would have kept it thogh he traded it in for the vert.

 

 

a mazda 3 was riding my rear through a twisty road today. i was going to push it a little to just loose him but feared he would wreck trying to keep up. sometimes i wonder why these guys even try... but i did notice he was calling his friends bragging he was hanging with the vette. i wonder what his girlfriend was thinking as he was pushing the car trying to keep pace as i was leaving todays corvette cruise 15second car all day because my friend races hers.

 

Lets see, so far no one has tried to race my Z but I have been tail gated for extended periods of time while cruising in the middle lane with the fast lane (passing) open. The usual culprits: WRX Sti, G35s, 350Zs, RSXs, Tc (Scion), RX8s, & an AMG CLK. Strange, no American iron mentioned??? Anyhow, being the thoughtful driver that I am, I normally try to get out of their way as fast as possible. I usually give them a good 5-6 car lengths (rapidly, to expedite their passing) and move into the slow lane once clear. Funny thing is their desire to tail gate & pass me seems to fade quite quickly after I pull clear.

I really don’t know why so many of these guys want to push the way they do but certainly do try. There are of course super fast ricers out there that can blow the doors off of a Ferrari, let alone a Vette… But they’re still just ricers. Like my CO says “A gold plated turd is still a turd”… I think you get my drift

I will say this though, I’m pretty sure a lot rice-driver just don’t realize what they’re up against. Many of my friends were and still are ricers, when I mentioned I was buying a Vette they laughed and were quick to point out how slow they were/are. Stuff like “you can take’m stoplight to stoplight every time”, or “easy for blow them away on the highway”. A lot of the guys said, “Only makule kine (old) guys drive Vettes, they no like race”. Think you get the picture. Well I’ve taken a couple of them for a ride & let one guy give my Z a drive… Some attitudes have changed, others probably never will.

As far as the other Vette harassers go, I bet some just want to see a fast car go fast

Yes, I've had it happen before. I just try to ignore them and hope they just go away. No sense taking a chance getting caught in a street race.

 

i had an evo with a can muffler try to race me... i glanced over and he did the forward finger assuming i wanted to race... i shook my head and laughed... i bet i made him look like an idiot... he took off and i slowley shifted through my gears knowing that i drove a vette and he didnt

 

Thats funny, I had a guy pull up to me at a light on the way to dinner with my girlfriend. He was driving a new altima seR also, and said he just spanked an 04' cobra lmao. As for the outcome, I guess that means I could put bus lengths on a cobra!

Unless you're modified heavily a lightly modded Evo can keep up with a C5. Esp off the line with its AWD vs our 2wd. Oh yeah they can handle amazingly well too. There are some ricer cars out there that may look like a POS but are fast.
