Default What do you think (2001 w/32K // $26K

Coupe . Dealership price. Dropped from $30K. Been on lot for 34 days. I originally offered him 25k. Called him back a week later, he excepted 26k.
I've yet to go check it out (for options, etc).
Does anyone have Carfax I can PM the VIN to get the history on the car?
Thanks in advance.

I think that's a fair price if the car is in good to excellant condition. JMHO

Thanks, I was optionally thinking of a 2000 with 14 k miles... prolly get it for 27k.
Little more torque in the 2001. hmmm. to pay 1k more for 20k less miles and a year older?

Keep this in mind, early production 2001 engines had oil consumption problems. Mine included. So find out what the last 5 digits of the vin are and someone here can tell you if it is early production or not.
I personally would opted for the 01 over the 00 because of the increase in horsepower in 01. Also they changed the mufflers so the tips came with chrome tips vise flat black paint tips. Probably something else they ungraded but I've forgotten.
Good luck

The price is a very good price for a Dealer reconditioned car.
It is probably about right for private party value on a good condition car.
So if he will sell it for $25K-26K and include a 90day dealer warranty go for it...
Regarding the model improvements for 2001... in addtion to the previously cited +Hp and chrome exhaust tips...

2001 Improvements
-Active Handling is now standard on all Corvette models
-New lighter-weight Bosch 5.3 pressure modulator provides better overall response and improved pressure apply times in cold weather.
-Electronic rear proportioning algorithm eliminates rear brake proportioning valve.
-New algorithms for more precise, less intrusive control of sideslip angle rate, rear brake stability and wheelspin.
-The unique-to-Corvette Competitive Mode may now be activated without bringing the car to a stop

Personally I would hold out for something better...not to rain on your parade but the off season is apon us and many dealers will have sales on them. I would be looking for a 2000 or 2002 and try to avoid the 2001 because of the possibility of problems that have been well documented...why chance it.
I think if you surf the net you will come across something better for your price range.

I got my 2001 coupe almost a year ago for $25,900 with 26k miles in "good" condition, the interior looked grey not black... But an hour of cleaning and armor all brought back the interior shine I wanted... It also had 2 spots smaller than a pea on the hood covered with touch up paint... If I were to do it all over again, I would get a 2001 or newer, with low 20k miles, with minimal to no paint defects... I hate those touch up spots... I hate them so much Im replacing the hood with a cowl to make room for a supercharger

I got my 01 A4 2 years ago and I would consider it to have been in very good condition, loaded with 32,000 for $27,000. The only thing was the driver seat was starting to wrinkle as all of them do.
Now, I wish I had found this board before I brought it because it has the dreaded “Piston Slap” that every body including GM says is not a problem! I still don’t buy that but I guess I’ll have to live with it! I didn’t know it had it until the weather turned cold and it started rattling. That’s when I went searching and found this site.
The one you are looking at may not have it and it my not bother you but it is unnerving when I start mine on a cold morning and it sounds like the pistons are swapping holes!

That's why I avoided the 01 when I searched for a used C5..Ended up with a 99 with only 20k miles from the original owner..

I've heard a couple of you say not to opt for the 2001 becuase of the problems. Well so far, I've heard of only the oil consumption problem in the early year (this car is about 2/3rds the way through the year so I wouldn't 'suspect' a problem, unless someone else knows better?).
So, if you know of any other problems with the 2001, please fill me in. the only other service notes I read on this year also includes other years as well... so It's no just the 2001. (right?)
Also, it was mentioned that this is the off year, and most dealerships have sales... I've search state wide for about 2 months now, and I've not seen any sales. Everything is always going for nada trade in, or more. This is a couple hundred below trade in (not counting the options). So, I might not neccesarily get a steal, but it's an average deal... not good - not bad.

Also, I have not looked at it yet, and if anyone knows, what is typically done on vehicles at the stealership before they go on sale? New tires? new fluids all around? I'm not sure and I dont want to ask this salesguy in case it gives him the impression that I can be 'had' cuase I dont know that much about stealership used car sales.

if this isn't a z06, offer 23.5, i'll assume this is a 2001 A4 coupe(not yellow, no other high demand colors that year)
if you are in CT, i can show you what to look for in a c5

other 2001 upgrades
ls6 manifold
ls6 block
bigger maf(w/ act built in)
ls6 clutch
new torque tube design
airbag cutoff standard
26k will buy an '01 z06 w/40-60k

Awesome..you got the inferior rod bolts, intake manifold, active handling, AND you bought a car from the last decade, century, and millenium.
