I assume it is a theft deterrant...... How does it work?

If the radio is taken out, It won't work without the "secret code" normally in the owners manual.

You activate "Theft Lock" by setting a security code. See owner's manual for instructions.

If the radio is removed from the car, you must enter the code to get it working again. Note that changing/disconnecting the battery may also require entering the code.

I like to set it primarily because once it's set, there is a red light on the faceplate that blinks when the ignition is off, & might deter someone from messing with the car if they think a security system is installed.
