Everything younger than 30 years must be converted.
I was quoted 4500aud to ship, 10% gst (duh) and 10% import tax -ive owned for 12months so i can do as a personal import, if you didnt get to do that, what did it cost you as a penalty?

Temps are running a bit high, blowing out the radiator is the place to start. You may want to pull out the air box and radiator shroud to do the best cleaning job you can. These cars are bottom breathers and you'll be surprise what you can find in the radiator cavity.
I think you got a good deal with everthing you had to do. Hats off to you.
You are right and cars over here with the same performance as a vette is worth a fortune.
We have our own vehicles over here that are very quick but a C5 convertible is as rare as hens teeth here.
But even with a stock C5, the power to weight ratio makes them very quick.
Wait till I boost her up a bit not many street cars will put this baby to shame.
$29,000US, $3500AUS for shipping, 10%GST+ 10% duty on purchase price + the conversion price.
total approx $80k.
i have a usa state tax receipt after i got mine where they calcuate the value to charge tax against -not on the purchase price but the 'book price' (now it may be improper, but the lass seemed to think "well who is gonna know, and who is gonna fine you for stating you paid book price vs whatever you really paid?" --in my case it was over 10,000 cheaper in their 'book'
but my point is: now i have a US Gov Dept / State DMV (whatever, its offical) receipt (via sales tax) of purchase...the chap didnt feel like giving me a 'sales receipt' anyways so i sort of figured in this country people arent to bothered about recording prices officially when the sell a car (privately) (atho i wouldnt see why not)
so my question is ---> when i (if) get it sent back to Aus, will they accept that sales tax receipt as proof of purchase (purchase value) and apply the 10% gst to that (and 10% import) ---> would you think?

Maybe the rules are different in Oz but for UK if you own and run the car outside the country for over 6 months you can import tax free. Tax only apllies if you're resident and bring the car in.
Worth checking. You probably got your tax rules from us in the first place

welcome to the Forum. I suggest you also get onto ls1.com.au which is a forum in Australia for folks with ls1 powered cars. There are quite a few aftermarket shops in Australia who have experience with the ls1 and can help you.
Most of my experience is in NSW as I spent some time in Sydney. I know there is at least one 2001 Z06 in Sydney now, so there are a few c5s over there....
Enjoy your car...
About 3-4 C5's on the Gold Coast.
Freestyler if you have had the car out of Australia for more than 12 months as your own personal vehicle you will not get hit any taxes once you bring it.
Sorry for the delayed resopnse, been away in the C5.
Mate very hot here at the moment and just working working working.
Just sold my Fj40 soft top and jet ski so will see what mods I can get on the Vette.
Although in saying that my stock C5 just put away my mates Ferrari 355 on the weekend, I was pretty happy about that, although he does drive like my Grandma.
Cheers.

Anyhow..did you get the conversion in AUS or US? Is US can you please let me know who did this for you? How long did it take and was there any complications involved. How did they do the dash..did they create you a new one or did they cut it from the center and somehow glued it back the other way around? I am curious..if the new dash has to be created then it would be cool..since you can sort of change the design of the dash and the instruments...
I was on another forum where I didnt get to know where the guy got his conversion for the C5 done but it said 20k AUD for the conversion which is almost 66% of what you paid..anyhow more info with pictures would be lovely..
Thanks mate..

Congrats and welcome !
I am a member at the NSW board and the Brisbane Corvettes board as well.
Since it is the heat of summer in Australia, it might run a bit hotter, but I am used to seeing 210-220 with a stock C5.
Check the radiator to ensure that there is not some debris clogging it in the upper portions (look up inder the nose of the car and you will see what I mean).
Also, I think I remember some of the mod guys saying that a cam will make them run somewhat hotter.
Make sure it has fresh antofreeze in it and then drive the wheels off of it!!!
best regards -
