Stock the M6 is faster in the 1/4 mile. Once you got heads and cam, then the auto w/ a high stall convertor is faster in the 1/4 mile. But, if you do any kind of highspeed races the M6 is still faster.

It is so close, stock vs stock, that the driver will win the race, not the tranny

That's true, but if you look at it with the view of consistancy I'd go with the auto.

What you think?

Assuming both are stock and the six speed driver does not miss a shift IMHO the six speed wins based on the the size of the rear.

The M6 is delivered witha 3.42 rear while the performance option for the A4 is 3.15

All the above are true...
I have an A4 with 3.42 rear, but now wish I had the 6 speed. More fun.
I think the 6 speed has a few more horses to at the tranny.

With a skilled, professional driver, the 6 speed will always win-Since that very rarely happens, most of the time the auto will win-wheelspin is very controlled, if you leave it it Drive, it goes to the redline and shifts, and you never miss a shift.

Okay, so for the sake of academics, am I to understand that if I floor my A4 from a standing start and keep my foot on the floor, it will go all the way to redline in each gear before upshifting to the next? Just looking for a little education, here. Thanks. I suppose I can just cruise up to the Pasadena freeway sometime and legally find out for myself.

For the sake of those who may not know, the Pasadena freeway I believe was the first freeway in the nation, and many of the entrances are still from a total stop, rather than a merge, which is freaky, to say the least. At least, it was the last time I drove that thing many years ago...

I see you only have 12 posts and may not know about the search feature. You can search the forum for various topics to see if something you have a question about has been brought up before. Sometimes it works well, sometimes you really have to play around with the wording you are searching for before you will return any meaningful results. But, there is a ton of information out there.

Don't worry about asking questions - so what if it has been covered before. Someone will give you an answer that may help you out.

Factory supplied numbers show that the manual equipped car was quicker 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile than the automatic, but like any speed contest, it can come down to how well the driver can handle the car.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

I just love this topic. No matter what anyone says it is all about the driver. Also if you've tryed the 6spd automatic in the C6 and you think the average bear can beat that with a 6spd manual you might want to rethink your position.
In the end buy what you want and have fun with it.
