Default hood liner

I have the hood liner off while I'm doing a hood mod and of course it needs to be painted. Any suggestions for cleaning it first? It seems quite fragile. To bad someone doesn't make a higher quality replacement. Or do they?

No better replacement made, (that I have ever heard of)

Some areas tend to get a little frayed looking, instead of a nice firm-even look...it happens. I have cleaned mine with water, gently sprayed, I have also used an air blower to dust it off. Some will say not to wash it, but I have mine, and it still looks the same Just don't use hard pressure when washing/rinsing it.

The worst thing you can do is try to brush it.

I have washed mine in the past but it was still intalled. I sprayed with Simple Green, let it soak 5 minutes and then used my pressure washer with a wide spray pattern to rinse and rinse until the water ran clear... i then let dry in the sun.

Another option (but kind of pricey $$$) is to cover it with custom embroidered material from Carmotorsports:

Expensive as @hit (I paid 200 bux for the kit ) but it sure makes the underhood side look so

Too easy!!!

1. remove hoodliner
2. spray hoodliner off with air hose
3. paint entire hoodliner with highheat Black Rustoleam, $2 at Wal-Mart.
4. paint C5 emblem with red, silver or gold markers, $1 each at Wal-Mart.
5. replace hoodliner.

Entire operation should take up about 30 mins. of your life.

How the heck did you paint the emblem so good...you must have very steady hands or you are an artist..right? Man thats good work.

Mods: Corsa Indy w/pro tips, ZO6 foglight screens, ZO6 red valve covers, ZO6 air box w/K&N, LS6 manifold, polished GM ZO6 wheels w/Toyo Proxes, GM ceramic brake pads, SS letters F/R, Altec brake light louvers and license frame, aluminium pedals, LLoyd floor and trunk mats, DIY painted hoodliner, performance hood seal, and the best mod of all: Lori's cup holder

Did you cut the fog light shrouds behind the Z06 screens?(its a must do ) Also do the rocker rails and frame savers thing by A & A Corvette (Andy's stuff)its a bigger must do . Get Tail light seals from John Chips(johnc@chiconet.com), Blackwing from Robert at Speed Demom,Trunk partition from Brian Mathews(he makes a really nice one)...but it may not fit your Vette (not sure) ......and thats about it...

And once again...you know what my little friend is going to say if you don't take my suggestions, right?

I would never wash it just seems it would screw it up as it has a cardboard type back BUT apparently thats not the case as several here did it with success so shows what I know... Before my new hood I always just vacummed mine with the house vacuum and the brush attachment. I hadn't seen the embroidered one before ...nice

I've heard that you should paint them with oven paint.

Try this one. Took about an hour and a half, the dragon was a little hard would worked out. Painted the hood line with spray paint for plastic first then House of Color.

Dude, you're killing me...
Just before putting on the foglight grills, I drilled holes in my foglight housings....it cost me absolutely nothing... I actually have a lot of mods to laying around waiting for me at home. I'm on the road constantly. I've been trying to get 3.42 gears and headers/x-pipe for the past 6 months. I'm never at home long enough to do the mods.

Oh by the way...this is for you

Do It Yourself !

Paint it with lots of spray black before you begin, use "paint pens" and just take your time with several coats of color. My daughter did mine and I could not be happier.

i really like the look of this...but what is it? is it a cover you glue onto the oem liner? does it take the place of it? their website has "assembled" or "kit" options but doesn't explain what that entails
if it replaces it, i'm all over it , but if it's a glue on cover . i already have rubbing issues with the oem liner against my CF airbridge

Assembled means that they take a brand new underhood insulator (UHI) and glue the embroidered material to it and then ship it to you.

The kit means that they will send you the following: embroidered material to cover your existing UHI, a can of high-temp resistant spray glue, and new fasteners to reattach your "modified" UHI. Then you glue the material to your existing UHI; the instructions are very straight forward. It took me about an hour and a half to complete everything.

I have no clearance issues with mine; the material is very flexible (remember it gets glued to the UHI) and doesn't add too much thickness if that is your concern.

Give Rich Van't Hof a call (1-877-367-2279); he can help you if you think you're going to have clearance issues.

The material that they use is very nice and supposedly flame retardant; the embroidery is top notch too! It really adds a nice touch to the hood area...

Painting the UHI is another great alternative but I'm hoping that the UHI holds up better in the long run by being covered up in this material

Carmotorsports - Great looking liner.
PaulaH. - Great artwork.

If you do it yourself take a look at your liner. If it is "fuzzy" consider replacing it before you paint it. You should be able to get a new one for $100 or so. I painted my old liner and due to the fuzziness of the liner in areas, it looks tacky. I have a new one and will be painting it in the spring.

This picture highlights the fuzzy areas around the left side.
