All you really have to do is loosen the tensioner(passenger side near the fuel rail cover), pull it off or cut it off, put the new one on following the proper routing and re-tighten the tensioner. Should only have 1/2" of play or so.

There are 2 belts.

The main belt drives the alt, water pump, power steering pump.
The 2nd belt drives the A/C compressor.

While you have the belts off, spin the idler and tensioner pulleys on both drive systems (the a/c system has a seperate tensioner)..they should roll smoothly with no resistance. If any seem sloppy, sticky, or otherwise suspect, replace them, they are not expensive and available at any local parts store.

When you have the new belts on, if the squeak remains, look for any wobble in the crank pulley.
If that is ok, the next step I'd do is remove both belts again, then reinstall the main belt only, and listen again. If the squeak went away, your A/C compressor or clutch is the likely suspect.

I had mine off the other day. I used a rachet and socket to get it off. I believe it was a 15mm socket. Put the socket on the bolt head of the tensioner pulley (post above this one-top picture-pulley with the arrow around it) and push it forward as though you were going to tighten the bolt in the pulley. The pulley should give way toward the driver's side of the car and the belt will loosen. Then, just pull the belt off while you have the pressure released on the tensioner. Not hard at all....just takes a second. You can do the same thing when installing the new belt. Put the belt in place on all of the pulleys except the tensioner. Hold the belt in place as though you were going to put it on the tensioner. Put the socket on the bolt head of the tensioner and push it toward the driver's side again (you have to do it in this order, otherwise you wont be able to put the belt on because the rachet handle will be in the way). From here just simply put the belt on the tensioner and slowly release the pressure making sure that the belt didn't slip off any of the other pulleys. Easy job once you have the belt on all the pulleys, which can be a "not so easy" job due to tight spaces. Good luck.

I think this will help me with a problem im having .when i start the car and drive for the first 15 minutes i hear a noise that sounds like the belt tensioner is squealing . I didnt know there was 2 belts. it must be the a/c belt tensioner.

I just got mine back from the dealer shop last week. They replaced both tensioner and idler pully Serpentine for main and A/C and replaced water pump. (all warranty)

Guess what???? It still has a bird chirp. That means power steering or alternator (only two items left that didn't get changed)

Good Luck! Can be a devilish problem to find where the noise is really coming from.
