Question for A4 guys
I just noticed this morning that when I shift from drive to reverse, there's a "clickety-click" noise that comes from the rear end that I hadn't noticed before. When I shift back to drive, I think it's a single click.

Is this normal? I assume so, but thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Hmmm. I just noticed it this morning for the first time. If it does it again, I'll make an appointment and bring it in. All I can say is, thank goodness the PO bought the extended GMPP with zero deductible that I was able to assume!!!!
The poor guys at the dealership really hate to see me coming!
Mine does the same thing. Never could find out the problem. Seems to be coming from the drivers side. I do have aftermarket lug nuts but they're torqued properly so I don't know. Its been doing it for awhile with no serious problems.

Feh... Although misery loves company, I think I'll take a drive over to my local dealer and ask the service tech's opionion this afternoon. Shouldn't take too long to get his thoughts, at least.

I determined that it only makes the clicking noises when shifting between Drive and Reverse and vice versa. So I drove over to the dealership this afternoon, unannounced and asked my service adviser to take a listen and see what he thought. He went into the shop to ask the transmission guys, but they were tied up with what they were working on and asked me to bring it back anytime late in the morning this week when they can give it a listen and determine whether it's within normal parameters or the transmission needs to be opened up. They said it could go either way. So, the saga continues. I'll post again once I get a diagnosis. I plan to drive it back over tomorrow morning and see what they think. Other than this weird click-settling sound going on, the transmission feels very tight. Shifts are crisp. No other issues. I'll report back tomorrow.

JMc,
I also had (have) this issue. I have had the rear right wheel hub replaced by the dealer, they said it had worn and was slipping...I also have had the diff serviced, refilled twice. The problem was gone and came back shortly after each fix. I am getting a new diff installed this weekend, and I am hoping that this issue will go away as an added bonus to the install. I will let you know, looking forward to hearing what your fix is as well.
Without actually hearing the noise it's hard to say. Of course the transmission makes a "click" when switching to reverse but you described a series of clicking. Because of this I would agree with all the above and say it can't hurt to have it looked at.
