Something similar happened to me in Arizona. Got me at 142 in a 65 last summer. Actually, rare for me but it only takes once. Officer told me that speed in Arizona normally results in handcufs and a ride downtown with charges well beyond a traffic violation. He gave me a break and wrote it for 75+ in a 65. Took defensive driving and kept it from going against me. You may have this choice too, but your speed makes going to court manditory.

You're lucky you didn't do this in Puerto Rico. If you're caught driving that fast, they put you in a mental ward as they feel you're suicidal.

I don't really feel the need to prove to all the forum members what a big tool I have in my pants like about 50% of the posters here...

"HAHAHA, DUDE, 110 is nothing BRO!! I do 178 ALL THE TIME!!! I RULE!!!... CHECK OUT MY PACKAGE AND HOW BIG AND MANLY IT IS!!!"

Not my cup of tea...... but hey, if your insecure about your manhood, by all means..... For those of us that know the consequences of fast and stupid driving... I have gone 110+ in a car before.... at work... don't like it, wont do it again unless I have to.... and never in my vette.... unless i'm on a track, in controlled conditions... too many variables out there that us reasonable and responsible drivers actually are cognisant of.... try and grow up before posting a statement like that.... and as soon as you see a Mom and her baby son crushed to death behind the wheel of their "subaru Wagon" because of some dumb A$$ driver wanting to "go as fast as these cars are made to go"... you will change your mind too...

You tell that Ex-husband and Ex-dad of the family you just killd that you were going just fine for the car you were in.... the car can handle it... its meant to go that fast and even faster... its got kick *** brakes and bad *** suspension.... There was nobody else on the road... I saw everything..

You think that people MEAN to get in an accident and kill people? No... its called an ACCIDENT for a reason... unexpected things happen.. and when your going that fast, you have no control...

That is a fact

I really am actually surprised to see the amount of immaturity in these forums... as far as the amount of people that just willfully disregard all safety and put themselves and others at risk, and then brag about it, and then make fun of those sensible enough to realize what that person has done is wrong...

Again, You are dead wrong. The speed i drive has nothing to do with my manlyness, and the fact that you try to bring it into the argument is pretty immature in and of itself.

A rational and responsible driver would realize that if there's no traffic, there's no traffic. Plain and simple end of story. OK, so cry about all those mothers and children that weren't there. No mention of out of control was ever brought up.

Maybe you should try being less of a hippocrit. You've driven these speeds. It's not unsafe with the proper equipment. The original poster didn't do this through town, he did it on an open highway with no traffic.

Just my point with the immature responses from the forum members.... again, you have no clue about the world around you.... I drive fast at my job because I have to.... and no, a rational and responsible driver would NEVER go that fast... a kid in a toy would go that fast and say he's "rational and responsible" to make himself sound like an adult... and there WAS mention of "out of control"... he said the officer gave him a ticket for "careless driving"... so in the eyes of a rational and reasonable law enforcement officer... 110 on the highway is "out of control"..... any more juvenile responses you care to share with me? You've done so well so far with them.

Ok, so you drive that fast because you HAVE to for your job, but wouldn't chose to otherwise? So why "risk" lives if it's such a chore going that fast, why not stand up for what you "believe" and tell your job you won't drive those speeds. Apparently you do not believe what you're typing because you still chose to drive these speeds. Every person here makes choices for themselves. Using your job as an excuse to drive excessive speeds is nothing short of hippocritical.

Perhaps not responsible...but rational, yes. It doesn't take much to figure out if there's nobody on the road, there's nobody there. But if you wish to continue arguing about hypothetical soccer moms who don't exist, be my guest, you're only coming across as more dillusional.

Why anyone would say it scares them to drive fast and DO IT FOR A LIVING ??

In Tennessee you would have been 'cuffed and stuffed' and your car towed (don't ask me how I know...). Years ago (1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette) I ran through radar going 115 in a (then 55) mph zone on a state highway. My lawyer got the offense reduced to simple speeding because the trooper did not have the proper FCC paperwork and so was operating the speed detection device improperly. But; that was then and this is now. In any event I would consult a lawyer before proceeding. Good Luck!

Yes, there is a time and a place where cars often see sustained top speeds (varies with density altitude). And yes, that place is open road where no others are present, or places for cops to ambush motorists.

Good luck with your ticket and be more thoughtful next time... if you know what I mean.
I have to agree with this statement. We all play or we would not own a high performance sport car. The key is, as stated, a time an place for it. Just be careful and don't make it a habit and be prepared to face the music if you get unlucky.

Definately let us know what happens. This new 100MPH lose your license regardless of conditions seems extreme with 70MPH speed limits. The legislature must have passed this when the 205MPH Tilley biker got pulled over went to court. The state couldn't prove his speed (impossible in his case) and I think it would have provided reasonable doubt about the VASCAR system accuracy if it had fully went through court system and been thrown out. That's my guess. I would look at getting a attorney that specializes in this area to provide advise. I expect they will help to get it reduced unless it was in congested traffic or especially dangerous for some reason.

Good luck.

That was also my first thought when I read the post. One telltale sign that there may be birds, is the presence of pronounced and obvious white markers on the highway. Depending on the part of the country, they may be white stripes extending all or partway across the traffic lanes.(so as to be easily visible from the air)
Anyway, lawyer up and do the best you can.

Get a good traffic lawyer for sure. Worst case pay the fine and no points. The points what you want to avoid to keep your insurance from going throught the roof. I think its funny how most of the people on here have thier cars modified but don't speed. some ones not telling the truth. I speed everyday. Just because your run a little over doesn't mean your unsafe. Sometimes the old guy in the left lane running 45mph is a bigger hazzard when the flow of traffic is doing 75 or 80 mph. Good luck and I would be willing to bet that everyone on here has opened it up once or twice so don't sweat it.
