I got to work one morning, looked at the clock and was 15 minutes early so I drove around the area for another 10 minutes because I really did not want the drive to end

You're completely normal. In fact, just today I drove from Washington, DC to Lancaster, PA just to have lunch with some buddies (and drive the Vette on a beautiful day). 125 miles each way, hit some good country roads wit hthe targa off, cranked the stereo, took a few detours for sightseeing... miles of smiles ;-)
And as far as gas prices go, think of it this way. I spent maybe $30 in gas, plus $10 for lunch at the best hole-in-the-wall greek restaurant in Lancaster county. So for $40 I entertained the heck out of myself for 7 hours. Movie tickets, popcorn and soda would cost the same amount and only give you 2 hours of fun. So if you think of it that way, the vette is still a cheap thrill.

[bitterness] wait until you blow the transaxle to shreds, downtime for a year, then you reassemble a brand new built transaxle and its leaking and no one can seem to figure out why [/bitterness]

No, you are far from being alone. I take the scenic route home quite often.
