going to buy a 99 or a 2000 vette.
-iam looking at a 6spd vert w/ appox 98 k on it
price is 24
-is there somthing i sould look for does this sound like a good buy
-any pro-cons of a hard removalable top vs vert
thanks
I think that is a little high for the miles. Removable hardtops were not availible from the factory on C5's, aftermarket ones sell for around 3K. I have no problems with my soft top.

Too much $$$s for those miles on either car. Options that you may want to consider are the HUD and active handling. 2000 model year will have better looking wheels IMO. Check for any column lock work done, rear differential seal leaks, rocking seats. I've had both of those model year C5s and liked them. Either way, you'll get a nice ride.
i was thinking the same thing but all the prices i see are about the same. i've had hard top sports cars before and t-top alos but never a vert. and since this will just be for weekend use i was leaning twrd that vert make the wife happy and well i would never take it on a road course.
adjusted retail on nada is 26 k. trade in 22 and loan 20k.
-so you guys are saying that i should not go over 20k. sounds good to me.
-other than whats on the sticky of this forum any other advise
Make sure the remote locks and unlocks both doors everytime... There are some problems with Door Control Modules a $700 fix IF you get a new part at the Stealerships and they do the repair.
Also if it has dual electronic A/C, make sure the display is bright and readable.
Price wise 20 ish if it is a Vert. 18K max if a coupe.

and a 6 speed too. That makes it worth more $$ than an automatic coupe no matter what the miles. You did not mention condition and other things like tires (big bucks).
TIRES are expensive, run a KBB on it and a carfax and see if its all clear, 98 K miles isnt alot, i got a 97 with almost 102 K, runs strong as hell, got mine for 14,400, immaculate condition!
it needed some tires, thats it. 6 speed stick, t-top, very VERY nice, i call it Pistol!
Your in a good position because your in the drivers seat(no pun intended) The reasons for this:
1. Even the Blue Book won't support that price
2. There aren't many (if any) that will pay that price for a C5 with that many miles.
3. When you do negotiate in the low 20K range it will be a steal because that high mileage C5 Vette will just be getting broken in.
They're trying to work off the premise that there aren't C5's being made anymore but don't fall for that. Even in mint condition 24K is too high. 20-21K would be a fair price for both if in mint condition.
-that is the thred to the vette i was looking at. i'am in mo but from ga. figured i would have my dad and uncle who is a vette man go by and look and they said it was nice fly down and try to get the deal done.
-are the prices going to be high this time of year. or should i wait for the fall to come around. i figured find the one i want and go after it.
-i work for an insurance company that will stay un-named so i have the ability to check for pior history and look for any kind of body dmg. so i feel good about that.
-but i have only ridden in the newer ones and have no experince w/verts.
-sounds like i sould try to get it for 20k... and if i do ill be down at the drive in cruise in branson mo.

To give you a real life example - I bought my '98 almost three years ago (11/03) with 37K miles on it - MN6 and about $4K in aftermarket mods (I realize the mods don't add value) for $27K.
I agree with the others that for $24K, you should be able to find either a newer car with similar mileage or a car of the same vintage with less miles.
I'm not saying the car is a bad deal with 98K on the odometer - just that it's about $2K - $3K over priced. C5 convertibles, especially those with an MN6 are among the most valuable C5's right now, but the price is a little high. Happy hunting!
I'd like to think that the car would be worth the price, but. I sold my '99 MN6 vert with 55K miles last month for $22,500 with new seats and '04 wheels and tires (EMT's with 7k miles). Car was near excellent shape and that was the best I could do. Keep looking.
