My stock LS1 lasted until the injudicious use of my right foot hit 12 pounds of boost at the top of 3rd gear, on the stock bottom end, and toasted a piston.

Nothing else appears to be damaged - the beautiful ECS Paxton supercharger is intact (love that blower) and my rather expensive drivetrain is solid.

So Olde Grond is sleeping safe and sound in Orlando, for now. I will get it towed home when I get back from Cruise In.

However, the rebirth of Grond is now definite.

Met CajunDude (Jason) here at Cruise In, and he has planted the seed of what I need to do with my next engine. Hehehehe. Completely unbeknownst to him Likewise, ALLTHROTTLE&NOBOTTLE (Steve) unknowingly told me what I need to do next to fix a minor (read: major) traction problem I was having.

Connecticut (CF Supporting Tuner) is also here, and he will be coming down to Florida for the next engine build. Stangkiller (Chris) and I have already planned what we are going to do with Grond next - and it is going to be extreme, to say the least.

Stay tuned to a Forum near you for the next Grond Chronicles.

EG (from Cruise In 7)

Post Scriptum : I am so glad that I came to Cruise In - the welcome was overwhelming - thanks everyone!!
Cruise In is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH MYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IN BEFORE THE LOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems to me like you were being naughty on the streets and romping on the car having a good time.
We simply cant encourage these types of activities ( having fun) here.
OH MY GOD!!!!!!! He stomped his foot to the floor in a car that was meant to have the accelerator stomped...........and he wasn't on a racing track! OH MY GOODNESS. I can't believe this thread has lasted this long.
SOMEONE PLEASE PM A MODERATOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE...........!!!
Or fuss at him..............just do something for Gods sake!

Its amazing too me that that the c5 versus the NSX thread was canned rather quickly, and here we have someone romping on a hopped up car on the streets.
Sorry EG...........this aint intended to offend you at all bro...........I wish you hadnt blown grond...........that car is fine as hell.
But this is meant to be a comparison as to how silly things get here at times.

stehen......
you did this on purpose huh????? a reason to add the crazy engine you have been talkin about. come on admit it!!!!! it is not possible for you to go more than 48hrs without some sort of new bad to the bone mod to the GROND.

it will be bigger, better, stronger, faster than before!!!!!!!
heck i know there is gonna be a new tv show about the 6 million dollar GROND. kinda of a knight rider type thing or something.

GROND the six million mod machine
6000 hp
6 millimeters ground clearance
60 psi boost
0-60mph in 0.6 seconds
top speed mach six

keep us informed!!!!!!!

Does this mean you have to take the center console apart again?

Sorry about the damage to your engine, but can't wait to see what you come up with next. Even without the car, have a good time at the CI.

Thanks for all the kind words, it is much appreciated.

I would like to clear up a couple of points :

1> My blown engine has ZERO to do with ECS. I have been asked if the ECS Paxton kit had anything to do with my engine going bye-bye. The answer is catagorically NO !!!! I love my ECS kit and the demise of my engine has NOTHING to do with ECS.

Doug & Chris of ECS have been very supportive of my efforts to push their kit on a stock engine to the limit. We discussed the possible consequences of my actions - and those consequences have come to pass.

I just wanted to clear that up. The normal ECS kit as sold and installed by ECS is 100% bulletproof. You will get a reliable, dependable, low maintenance supercar for a few thousand dollars.

I decided to push their kit well beyond what it was designed for - and paid the consequences. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings. In no way should my own sillyness be reflected on the sterling ECS reputation.

2> Grond will be off the road for about 4 months. I have a lot of major modifications I wanted to do - and this will be the opportunity to do them. Many of them will be much more radical than anything I have done thus far.

Oh yes, and much more than the center console will be removed this time,

EG

I understand that you meant this post as satire and was said without heat - however....

With all due respect, you are misinformed.

I never said at what speed I was traveling - I merely mentioned what gear I was in. I can (or rather, could) pull 10 pounds of boost in first gear. First gear on my car redlines at 28mph. I hardly call that "breaking the law" or "speeding"

Please keep this thread focused and on topic. Wild, unsubstantiated rumors, innuendo and gossip is counterproductive.

Thanks

I made this statement many, many times : "If you want to play, you have to pay".

High horsepower is not a poor man's sport. Once you go beyond "the normal" (500rwhp) - something WILL break - the only question is WHEN - not IF.

Based on what others have made on the dyno with the ECS kit, with less boost and smaller cams - I was in the low 600rwhp range. It was only a matter of time for me.

It's just money. I can't take it with me.

Just (morbidly) curious, was it #7 piston?

Sorry to hear Grond will be silent for the summer. Whats the status of the new 427?

Won't know which piston took the bullet for a little while. I'm still at Cruise In in Kentucky; I will post the results of the engine teardown with pics over the following few weeks.

Sorry to hear about your engine. Were you running any alky?

I installed a single nozzle alky kit recently and just got back from a hell-of-a GREAT time drag racing and auto crossing my C5 at Indianapolis Raceway Park at the National Fbody Motorsports Event. (http://www.fbody-event.org)

I made over a dozen runs down hot lapping my car at the drag strip... I really abused my car and tortured the cartech line lock and my Nitto R2's...

Best time (I am a newb @ drag racing and didnt have drag radials) with a Wolfe 6 point rollbar, cartech line lock, single nozzle alky, A&A P1SC @ 11psi:

R/T: .050
60': 2.011
330: 5.176
1/8: 7.693
MPH: 99.00
1000: 9.829
1/4: 11.629
MPH: 125.97

Not say I wont blow up the car in the future, but at least I didn't do it 8hours away from home at the dragstrip...

Also, I wasnt the quickest at the auto cross event they had either, but I had a blast running over a couple of cones...!
