I just got all my parts in from Fred Beans and Vette Essentials to make the conversion to a C6 shifter assemby. I am a little mechanically inclined, can i handle this myself? I mechaic buddy says he can do it next week, but who wants to wait that long! Some input from those who have done it would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys! Are you forgetting the demon key? It's a lot tougher than described, although there are various methods of removing without destroying the ****. There are also some differences here from the Hurst install: you are changing out the entire assy, not just the top portion. This requires marking the existing flange so the new assy goes in the same spot; it is done in neutral vs 4th per the Hurst install, and you have to disconnect/reconnect to the shift rod. Be careful not to drop the bolt. Also you must release the centering pin to unlock the shifter after it is installed. Not hard, just different. I've done this twice (with son), C5 to C6 and C6 to C6Z06. PM if you have questions.
One more comment. Don't worry about the rubber plug he's talking about here. This was used because Patches previously modified his rubber boot to quiet down the Hurst unit. n/a for your install.

I did the insulation over the winter and wish I had done the shifter then! My key was somewhat difficult to remove. I used the method described by others of clamping vise grips on the key and hammering upwards. Not too bad.

One doesn't HAVE to change out the entire assembly. The bottom part is the same as the C5. In fact, the only difference is the handle. If you don't want to mess with the shift rod & clamp, simply separate the top part from the C6 shift assembly and swap it out with the C5 top.
