Labor Day Coming Home. He Clocked me at 88 in a 65. Well, we all know that's not so fast...Until Your Caught  Check this, I recieved a VERBAL WARNING. YUP, first time thats ever happened to me :yesnod: I will try to slow down some...times... Happy LABOR DAY :seeya
I needed a new one because my 3rd Bel (been loyal) was acting up. http://www.radartest.com Detector shootout. I bought the Escort Passport 8500.
I can't say it is the best as the comparison shows, but I love it. I've never had a detector give me so much warning. Front or back. shows up to 8 radar signals at once. I would like to see what others are using and how much they like them.
TN as well as IN and KY use lots of Instant On radar, which doesn't give you much of a chance if a smart trooper is using it. If they only use it on the cars they KNOW are speeding, you will not have gotten a warning from it on the car ahead of you a mile or two.
Hey all!
Anyone that seriously speeds without a Valentine 1 Radar detector is nuts. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is even close. Sometimes I think the warning is *too* far in advance.. I mean, you don't need to slow down 4 miles before you meet the cop...;);) All kidding aside, I used Bels religiously(last was was a 645sti) but the Valentine 1 is heads and shoulders above it. It isn't cheap at $399, but it's about as close to legalized speeding as you are going to get.
While I currently have the bel in my car-curious about the false signals the Valentine puts out. The bel has saved my butt on many occasions but the false signals in the city are driving me nuts.
We have V1's in our C5's - I've never used anything else, so I can't testify to how well the others work. I can testify (many times over) to how well the V1 works.
If someone in a 911 Turbo decides he wants to try you on for size, and is willing to run it up to 140+, well, you better be confident in your detector.
Shame, shame, shame on all of you speeders :nono: Don't you all know that a radar detector won't save you from my radar gun if your'e all alone or at the head of the pack. Yeah they may give you a warning when I zap a car in front of you, but usually the fast cars are the pack leaders!
Heres a fun little thing I like doing...sneak up along the blind spot of someone that I can see has a detector. Then I light them up full beam and watch them hit the hooks!! A guy once spilled coffe all over his dash! HILARIOUS
I just made the trip from BG to the S.F. Bay Area and never went over 123 MPH. :D Had I been the only one on the highway I'm sure I would of gotten a ticket or two. But I always slow down for the next 10 miles when I get a KX or K band light on my V1. Lots of trooper's turning the guns on and off now days. It also helps to slow down cars if you leave your gun on while writing your tickets. :yesnod: :seeya
and youre buying a vette next year for what purpose?? to get to whatever the posted speed limit is quicker?? LOL And you knowing personally what the laws are im sure you will never break them and never go over the posted speed limit. What a BIG pile of :bs that is. Hyprocrisy at its best.
CALVette, I am impressed, how did you fight the urge to crack the 150 mark? I cant leave the gun on because they are instant-on guns that require you to depress the trigger for the radar beam to be emitted. My moving radar somtimes gets left on to give you that warning signal ;)
Av8ter, I am not a hippocrite by any means. I enjoy driving a little above the speed limit now and then myself. I actually enjoy the accelleration more as you mentioned. I always try to keep it below 15mph over the speed limit on the main roads and will never speed through a residential area. U see the 15mph cushion is what I give to the motoring public and if I can't stay below that then I would feel bad writing that ticket to someone else. You see I have moral and ethical code that I try to live and work by. I wont usually even stop you unless youre going more than 15 over the limit. Unless you are tearing through a residential zone...then my cushion drops significantly! I derive more pleasure out of a precise handling, very fast accellerating vehicle than I do just driving fast for periods of time. I guess thats the drag racer in me. :reddevil
I'm no :blueangel: but I try to be as fair as I can.
Did not want to end up in jail so far from home.
I picked up on instant-on's at over 5 miles with my V1 more then once. If I get a K or KX band hit I drive the speed limit for the next 10 miles just to be safe. I like your 15 over rule, that means 90 MPH on some interstates.
