Default Cigarette Lighter Adapter Question

I want to use the cigarette lighter power for a satellite adapter. The problem is that when I switch the car on the power remains on. Anyone know of a way to switch this to only apply power while the car is on?

Oh yeah, this is on a 2004 vert.

i'll give you a bump since i have the same ?. however i'll add a few thoughts as well. when we had an (((xm))) roady2, i left the 12v power plug in the c5 outlet all the time with, of course, the xm radio turned off. we never, ever had an issue with this. we recently changed to a pioneer airware & the 5v (not 6v) plug that goes into the cigarette ugh lighter has a red led on it. now i realize that the power draw on the led is minimal but i still don't want to go out in to the c5 garage in week or 2 & find the vette's battery dead. hence i usually pull it out & just plug it in when we are c5'ing. bub

The cigarette lighter is a 20A power always on circuit. If you want switched power, try another circuit.

I tried the other one in the center console, but it behaves the same. I was hoping to not get elaborate with the setup. I guess owning a vette isn't supposed to be easy!

I found a way to switch both cigarette lighter outlets with the accessories so that they are on Only when the car is on. I removed both cigarette lighter fuses and ran a jumber wire from the bottom slot of each of these 2 fuses to the spare accessory fuse slot using one of the 20 amp fuses I previously removed to insert into the accessory opening. I carefully slid the jumper wire into the load side of the fuse opening while inserting the fuse. I'm now in the process of modifying some fuses with the jumper wires attached for a more custom job. This mod work's great, but you have to know what you are doing and to use the proper tools, voltmeter, ect. I run my Roady 2 from the console and my radar detector from the dash with no problems. The project took 30minutes from start to finish.

I used the the same spare accessory plug to power my exhaust cutout controller. That was the easiest way to get 'ignition on' power.
