Is a C5 a better car than the C2? Of course it is but I'd rather have a nice C2 any day of the week. Having a piece of Corvette history is why people own ZR-1's.
everyone has there opinion I love my ZR1 I had a 02
Z06 loved that car as well.
If you said ZR1 or Z06 it would be a hard sell
but I personaly hate the C5 coupes I think they look like crap I hate that huge back window
I love the Z06 hard top better looking than the coupe
I use my ZR1 as a daily driver and havent had a engine problem with it yet the only problems they have are 15 year old stupid parts like injectors, alternators water pumps the parts that break on cars.
the wear and tear items, Its a long shot to hear anyone having major problems with this "expensive" motor
how many people have made a LS1 or a LS6 into a coffee table??
But really you got the responce you wanted you posted this in the C5 section of course they are going to say C5 thats what you wanted to hear

The ZR is awesome in so many respects that I still think it was the best decision I made. With that said if I could afford one I would also love a C5 Z06 but for different reasons. It is more comfortable and easier to get in and out of and still great performance. I just think they are two different cars to make a comparison to when they each offer their own benefits. It's also not really fair to compare a 7000 unit production based car against one with 100+ times that volume (or whatever it is but far more anyway). They serve different purposes. For now I'll stick with my ZR but hope to purchase a Z06 in the future (and have both!!)
Mike, i have seen and heard your car and had the pleasure of running with it that day we taught that new Mustand never to pass a convoy of Vettes ... it is truly an awsome automobile ...but you're right...we're comparing two different beasts for two different driving preferences
I would say that oil capacity is not a problem....., the LT5 holds 12.5 qts!
BTW..., Sold my Z06 to buy a ZR-1.
DMark
Had the opportunity to buy a very nice Z06 and a ZR-1.
I decided to go with the ZR-1 because of the LT5 even though it had higher miles. I would like to own C5 A/T in the future for the comfort of the ride to go along with the performance of my ZR-1 (which has a surprisingly comfortable ride).
As for looks I like the ZR-1, and C4's in general better than the C5 but that is a matter of personal preference.
BTW, have you noticed any performance differences between the Z06 and ZR-1?
I never ever gave a thought to any C4. They are dinosaurs. Lt5s are a helluva engine, but it can't make up for the shortcomings of the C4 compared to a C5. I think that a poll of general car enthusiasts would confirm that the C4s are the least desirable of all Vettes made to date.
Hmmmmmm. Must be the reason the C5 owners never wave back at me!
That issue was discovered during the design phase of the LT5 as can be read in "The Heart of the Beast". The great majority of production LT5's, including all the early models are pretty much bullet proof and have not had any such issues.
Thanks. I knew there was something about it, but wasn't sure of when it was resolved. It just came to me while typing my post, so I thought I'd ask.
If you are thinking of keeping something as a collectible- then a ZR1 would be the car...I understand they can be difficult and VERY expensive to repair those engines though...
I rode in a guys ZR1 around here years ago. No possible way I would get rid of my C5 for one. It was just like my dads 84 with a better engine. My dads 84 was a POS.
I knew someone with both a C5Z06 and a ZR-1. He loved the ZR-1, but told me the C5 Z06 is twice the car as the ZR-1. Technology, the way they handle and body flex. The reason I said I "knew" is because he died in the Z06
