Default Center console: hot, hot, hot

I think I have read about this before, and Im not too concerned, but when i got back from cruising downtown( and babying it over bumps in downtown charleston abou 7-15mph) my oil temp was 225, and my tranny fluild was over 210 I think. So I pull into my house and open up the center console to get my wallet and its hot as hell....My gas card and credit cards I keep there were blazin hot.

Someone reassure me that this is normal..............

ya, this is normal. I almost got a 3rd degree burn (well, not really, but it felt like one) when i left the top off in the sunny parking lot, jumped in and put my forearm down on it......yikes!!!

oh ya, my orbitz gum always melts in the packagaing in my center console.

Yeah, it's normal. Mine gets hot after running a while. I have change in my ash tray and it's always hot.

Since I got my tranny cooler, I have not seen the trans temp go above 192 degrees.

The center console in these cars do get hot. What you are experiencing is normal.

I put in the Elite Engineering Abs of Steel, ceramic coated, and the heat dropped way down.

Put some dynomat extreme and a elite tunnel plate in and the heat will go way down. An added benefit will improve handling and quiet down inside of car.

Take a look at this thread. Our Thermal-Abs really does an amazing job at stiffening the chassis while cutting down on the heat in the console area.

I put in a pre-cut sound damping kit that also cut down on the heat in the center console. It also cut down road noise and made it more comfortable inside. That was a worthwhile mod....

My Colt .45 would get so hot in there, I thought rounds were gonna start popping off.
When I had to pull the console and radio for my ipod2car, I put some of that aluminum foil bubble wrap insulation down under it. Cut out 80% of the heat.

Default console

Do the interior insulation number, get a C6 aluminum plate from Bean's($60), spray it with silver hi-temp paint and you're good to go.

I suppose that I must be one of the lucky ones, as my C5's center console doesn't get what I would consider as 'hot' at all......and the outside temp has already been 121 degrees (in the shade) here for a few days this past summer.

Put something metal in there....no, a snickers bar. Then do some spirited driving for 45 min and get back to us.
