The blocks weigh the same.
The venerable small block Chevy is Generation II
LS1 = Gen III
LS2 & LS7 = Gen IV
My background is extensive radical small block and big block engine builds.
As a cursory comparison between Gen II, III and IV castings, the bellhousing pattern of the aluminum Gen-III block is identical to the traditional Gen-I/II pattern with the exception of one missing bolt on the passenger side. On the Gen-IV block, a boss has been added for the missing bolt, but it's not tapped.
This is one of the reasons that a TH400 will bolt up to a LSx engine - you just change the pilot bushing.

Melting Slicks
Hey EG - I think it's about time to lose your "amateur" status and get your own cable TV show.
You could lose your day job and probably get all your stuff free from sponsors.
Stangkiller could join you as, well as Stangkiller.
THE CORVETTE FORUM CHANNEL!
I'd watch!
It would be such an improvement over those "other" how-to car shows.
Especially when the odd piston melts.
Now THAT's a REALITY SHOW ! !

Thanks for the warning for all the garage queens out there.
Otherwise, I would have had a heart attack when I saw the StangKiller brought his car out ...in the rain....
