Default another leaking diff tread.. new question

I know nobody wants to read another leaking diff thread but I have a question that I can't find the answer to. Mine is leaking around the driver side cover on the diff itself not at the axle seal. 1st question. do they make a gasket that goes here or is just a silicone [permatex] gaskets. two will i loss all the fluid in the diff or can this just be unbolted, gasket replaced and bolted back together. Also I had read about some of these side covers having a casting flaw? The car only has 12k on it and is already leaving fluid in the garage! Please let me know what you all have gone through. thanks in advance for the help.. Rich

The second time I had a problem with the differential leaking the dealer said it was the side cover that had a casting flaw - seems it was too porous and the fluid was leaking. They replaced the cover and is stopped leaking for a while, but came back. The third time they replaced the seal again and so far, no more leaks. Each time they have replaced all the fluid in the differential.

I have an 04. It also has a leaking rear end. The first dealer that worked on it said that they fixed the mating parts of the differential, however they thought the transmission seal could also be leaking and they didn't have the seals to replace them. Wanted me to bring the car back. I still see the same pattern oil stain on my garage floor. I have moved since the first repair. So I took the car to another stiller- ship for and oil change and showed the tech the oil leak. They said they could not tell where it was coming from??? K left on my warranty, bet they would look harder if I was buying. I'm going to try another dealer soon, and will more than likely buy the extended warranty, also going to write GM to see if they will recommend a dealer with a vette tech.
good luck with yours
