I think this debate goes in the top 3 of all time debated topics on the forum up there with , which exhaust is best, which headers make the most HP etc etc..

SullyC5 hit it on the head. It's all about personal preference and your plans for the car. I have an MN6 and love it, and I do drive in a lot of traffic, still love rowing gears. The only thing that I do not like about the A4 is the standard rear gear is a 273 (unless you get the 315 optional gear) otherwise, there is absolutley nothing wrong with getting an A4 vs MN6 if it suits your driving style.

Good luck

Thanks guys! Its just going to be a touch decision. Driving a manual in the city is fun, running through the gears is always fun. But... Its just going to be a tough decision. It just seems there is alot more auto's forsale lately in the exterior/interior combo that I'm wanting. I've got my choices down between either Torch red with all black interior, or Pewter with all black interior. So... we'll see i guess. Just something I think I need to ride/drive both to see.

Get what you feel would be best for your driving conditions. Heavy city traffic, might be best to go with an auto. Manual tranny will have better gearing, plus the rear axle will be a 3.42 compared to either a 2.73 or 3.15. If you like to row through the gears, get the manual.

Either way you go, the car will be a good performer.

A true "sports car" can only be a convertible too then, if you think like that. Get what you like, don't listen to the only M6 macho high school bs. If you like shifting all the time, that is fine. For 95% of drivers an A4 will beat an M6, mod the A4 with same gears and a better converter to level playing field and it will take care of the rest of the M6 guys. Only place the slight advantage goes to M6 is road course, but then again you can manually shift an A4 if you want to, you don't have a choice with a manual.

Strip = A4 (Highly modified Force Inducted quarter mile C5s are all A4s)
RoadX and Auto X = MN6 (Much better control and command)

If you are NOT into Road Courses and AutoX at all and will be using it how you described it, I'd go with an A4......

But wait.... its me... I'd NEVER go with an A4

It amazes me how many people that buy a sports car and then get an automatic.

It's the same as everything else...do what you like and don't worry about what everyone else says to do, at the end of the day it's your car and you have to drive it
, except I'm 26.

All of these threads seem to devolve into M6 guys doing some ribbing, and then A4 guys start getting defensive. I don't care that A4s are more consistent and potentially faster in the 1/4. And shaving tenths off of my lap times at Sebring was not the reason that an M6 was my main requirement when buying my Vette. I just enjoy the experience so much more with a manual.

The F1 style manumatics are the fastest, and the magazine guys rave about how it makes you sound like Schumie matching revs on the downshifts. Well, I get the blip just right on maybe 50% of the time when heel/toeing, but that's more fun than having a computer do it just right on FOR ME every time. JMHO

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe slightly over 60% of the C5's manufactored were Auto's. Therefore it would make sense that auto's are easier to find.

Also, I've been told that (overall) there is more turnover of the A4s. I think they make up a larger portion of leased C5s, so many come back on the market within 3yrs. Used M6s don't seem to sit on the lots as long.

The fact that I live in the DC area -- where traffic is awful -- makes me GLAD my car is an A4. In fact, when I know I'm going to be stuck in the crawl it's a great reason to take the vette over my DD, which is stick.

What's funny about these threads is that, for handling & performance, the least important aspect of the car is the transmission. Power, suspension, brakes, tires, rear gear, cooling, even the selection of fluids...all have more of an effect on the 'sportscar performance' of the Corvette than switching between an A4 to an MN6. But this silly debate & condscending attitude of some will go on & on & on...

BTW Here are a couple of difinitions...

A sports car is type of automobile designed for sporting performance. While opinions differ as to the exact definition, most sports cars have two seats and two doors, and are designed to excel at a combination of acceleration, top speed, braking, and maneuverability. Great emphasis is often placed on handling—the ability of the car to remain in the control of the driver under challenging condition such as when the car's tires begin to lose their grip on corners.

An automobile equipped for racing, especially an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center of gravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control at high speeds.

Seems like transmissions are not a factor.
