First Attempt at a Fiberglass Sub Box
I was just sketching around on some ideas for a sub box and was really tired of the MDF square box covered with carpet deal. Did a lot of them and while OK, they just lacked something.
So, decided to take a plunge into the world of working with fiberglass and was that a lesson in messiness. What a pain, but all in all, I really like the outcome of the work.
Started with the sketch and did the traditional MDF back, bottom and sides. Then the fun started with fleece and fiberglass layup. Cut hoops for the speakers and just sort of tacked them in place with a little glue, then later wrapped it all up in glass. It was looking like a project going nowhere till the sanding (and plenty of it) started, then some bondo fill, sand, prep and paint. 2 base color coats, and 3 layers of clearcoat.
Gotta to admit. Came out a heck of lot nicer than I thougth. Was it worth it? I suppose so.

Gave it to my kid for his car - lots of comments on it!

Did you use Cotton Sheet (aka T-Shirt) or Fibreglass mesh? Kind of hard to see from the photo's.
Also once you get used to it.. You can switch to carbon cloth, and use clear resins.
