Mercedes SL65 612hp, six speed auto...
Well the results just keep getting better folks!
Friday night 10/20 @ Texas Motorplex in Ennis.
I kept thinking about my last weekend runs, and particularly the very last run which netted me an 11.71 ET in the mid 60's temps. So, I'm thinking to myself...tonight, it's supposed to be in the low to mid 50's...wonder what this new tire/wheel set up would do in those temps?
So I get my stuff together and head out there, and arrive around 9:30 p.m., and temps are already in the mid and eventually low 50's.
I let the car cool off as usual, then head up to the staging lanes to see what will happen.
I was almost caught off guard, because I had forgotten that Texas Motorplex runs a Pro Tree on Ultimate street night, as opposed to Fast Fridays! Fortunately my son spotted it, and told me about it as I was going through the tunel.
Anyway I proceeded with my usual regimen, as described above and did my thing, and people, let me tell you...I'm speechless! The run netted me an 11.63!!!
Full read out was: RT=.379...60'=1.71...1/8=7.43...1/4=11.63!
After my second cool off I try it again and I get:
RT=.664...60'=1.67...1/8=7.41...1/4=11.63!! Wow, a much better 60'!
Finally, a guy whose driving a new Mercedes SL65 612 hp 6-speed auto car has a track official flag me down, and tells me he wants to run me. I'm thinking...what's up with this??? I say, sure, and then pull out of line to wait for him to come up beside me.
Finally, the SL65 pulls up through the lines, and we get ready to head to the burnout box. We burnout...stage...yellow...BOOM! DEAD HOOK!! and we're off!!!
Now, I don't know about you, but I kept wondering why this guy was wanting me, and since he had just killed two C5 Z06's a few minutes ago, I was pretty sure he was just full of himself, and out for some Corvette kills so he could go back and bragg to his Mercedes buddies how he ate up all the lowly Corvette foks on their own ground!
Long story short...I pulled him down the track...won...and got an 11.60 for my trouble!
His was an 11.8 or 9, I think. On Ultimate street nights at the Motorplex they split the tickets(which I think is pretty cheezy) and you cannot be sure what the other guy ran...but my son says it was either an 11.8 or 11.9.
Full readout for me was: RT=.456...60'=1.67...1/8=7.39...1/4=11.60!!!
Man, this has been an awful nice two weekends!!!

The Mercedes...
BTW, this not to take anything away from the Mercedes SL65. It's a $200,000 car with gobs of horsepower and an ungodly amount of torque...and who knows what it would have done with a better driver, and perhaps better shoes!
On the other hand, I was happy to take everything away from the driver, that he was planning on celebrating.

Sweet! Always fun to watch a guy drive off with a frowny face in his ultra expensive, yet incapable Benz. That being said, those things are freakin' amazing! Nice times btw

But...like someone else stated above, at least the guy was out there, getting it on with everyone. I mean, at least he wasn't afraid to put his money where his mouth was.
Thanks members! The full story of the benefits from changing my tire/wheel set up to BFG's and Speedlines is in the drag racing section, for those who are interested.

Nice job of driving - and showing the Mercedes not all Vettes are easy to kill.

I love my C5, but I'd take the SL65 all day long if I was able.
