I noticed the other day this crazing on the rear deck, just above the light cluster. Some of the lines go down the back about a foot. There always were a couple of what I thought were scratches here but it seemed that over one weekend this 'spiders web' appeared. You can feel them with your nail so I dont think they will buff out.
What do you reckon caused it and is there a cheap fix?
I would post this over in the Car Care section, maybe those guys can help. It looks like the pain itself cracked to me, maybe even under the clear coat. My quick answer is to get it repainted, but like I said, others may know of a way to salvage that.
That is a large blunt impact! maybe a foot or something at least a couple of inches across! That just didnt happen, your baby was probubly assualted when daddy wasnt around!
I may be wrong, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that there is a recall for defective rear decks with these symptoms. It's worth checking out since it would be a free fix. I think you get a new hatch cover.
Something flexed the soft rear fascia and cracked the base coat. I did it to my own this weekend trying to move the fascia over a little to line up with the fender. It'll take a sanding and repaint. It's not the hatch lid, it's the fascia. At least the white won't be hard to match, I've got the anniversary red with metal flake. It'll probably never match again.
Looks like someone maybe was pushing the car from behind (by hand). I have been temted at times to do just that & caught myself before I did. My 79Z28 had soft fascias & the previous owner said he put his hand down on the front fascia & leaned over to look inside the engine compartment & it looked just like yours does.
Looks like $600.00 to me. Thats what it cost to fix mine. Someone bumped me in a parking lot and looks like the same damage. After it's fixed you won't know it. Good Luck!
