Sticky goo/grease inside wheel
I did a search and can't find anything similar to my problem.
I have a C5 w/ approx 71k miles on it. Whenever I clean the wheels I notice a bit of sticky greasy goo inside the passenger rear wheel. My husband purchased the car brand new and said it has done this for a long time, almost since new. He's had it in the shop on several occasions to determine what is causing this but they never find anything wrong with the car. The car has started to leak more grease on the garage floor. It's not making any noises that I've noticed. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

What exactly does that mean? (Besides it's going to take my life savings to fix?)
Found this thread, the grease in my wheel doesn't look like this at all. Not this much grease and not the same color. My grease is black. Does this make a difference?
There is a hard rubber boot around where the axle shaft meets the wheel hub. Inside the boot is a thick gooey grease that lubricates the CV joint (constant velocity joint). A small rip in the boot causes the grease to fling out when the car is at speed and it flings all over, been there done that.
It is not a major repair and I have done a few on other cars before, but I'm not sure what a shop would charge.
I've got a ripped boot and the grease turns very dark from road grit. Mine has slightly leaked for two years. I've gotten two estimates at approximately $500. I'm waiting until spring for repairs, after hibernation. Good lick with yours!

It's still covered under an extended warranty. I'm hoping this repair will be covered. If not $500 doesn't seem so bad really. I spent almost $1000 on transmission repair to my '98 when I had it, no warranty then.
