to run your coolant temp a little cooler for your engine. Some people say its good to have a lower thermostat to run your engine cooler but others say its bad cause it messes with the ecu or something along those lines. I wouldnt spend the time or money on one in my opinion.
well if i don't know what something does i probably won't use it.
and i figured out what it does by the name. what i don't know is what is the advantage of running the car cooler? why would you want to run it cooler?
If you are using your car for a lot of racing, it will just open up a little sooner and stay open longer to cycle more anitfreeze.
My car will not cool down enough below 190° between runs anyway, so what does it hurt to have a 160° thermostat in it.
I agreee though, that for normal street driving, you should stick with a 170° stat or above. Normal driving temp should be 180°-190°.
If you are going to use a lower thermostat then run a 170* stat.
It will keep the engine temps down for better performance but YOU WILL have to have your cooling fans come on earlier than the factory setting's otherwise it will be for not!
Cooler temps mean mean more HP if your engine gets hot or too hot the computer will take timing out to keep it from pre-detenation!
