My car's three years old now, so I'm concerned about valve and other
fuel system component deposit build-up. I used to use Chevron almost
exclusively, but lately I've switched to Shell. I've never used
convenience store gas, and I always use 93 Octane (Supreme). Is
Shell a good choice? Any other recommendations? Thanks.
any brand will work, user preference. I have a 355,000 mile toyota supra that I have always used the cheapest price gas in it and still have original engine and injectors that spray fine, my own opinion and proof for me that gas brand doesn't matter as long as tanks are kept up to standard and no h2o or other crap in them. some name brands have more additives but no proof that i have seen that it matters. Govt requires all have some detergents in them. Also different parts of the country (far west, north, northeast??) seem to have more problems with gas.

Sorry for the confusion, but 'sludge' is usually associated with engine oil gelling and restricting oil flow. You are talking gas brands?? Could you be refering to the carbon buildup on the piston tops??
I believe that would have more to do with the AFR in the tune than the brand of gasoline you use!!
I have a client, that works at the port of Everglades and he deals with the gas tankers to comes in and the trucks that take it out to the different gas stations. Its all the same gas (seperated by octane) going to all the different companies. The only difference is the additive and detergents they put into the tanker trucks. He told me the only one that is any different is Amoco supreme, because they do some extra refinery. Thats why is clear in color.

I use Shell and my Z runs great with it. Shell is a top tier gasoline along with Chevron and others. Top tier gas supposedly cleans deposits from valves and other fuel system components. So my recommendation is to use Shell or some other top tier gas. On the other hand, some folks probably don't like it. To each his own. I run nothing but 93 octane and used to use Sunoco 94 when I could get it. If I did use discount gas, I would add techron or some other cleaner.
Stick with top tier. Over the period of a year, you would have saved perhaps $300 with the cheaper brand. I realize that is the price of another tire, but what else are you doing to do with your money????

I meant valve and other fuel system component deposits.
