Default Cooling system mystery

I been noticing the smell of coolant and occasionally a little coolant spray on the inside of the engine bay, typically on the front and splashed around by the fan or belts. This typcially only happens during autocross events and I thought with events with an very tight corner. But it seems to be more than that. I haven't lost much coolant at all, it's not a big leak.

Last night I inspected more and found the underside of the hose from the top of the waterpump was a bit wet. every other place I look appear to be clean and dry. The attachment of hte hose looks odd to me, the pump tube has a raised ridge and the hose butts right up to that. I'm wondering if the hose need to be over that ridge? Also, was thinking to change the spring type clamps to a screw type hose clamp to maybe get a better seal, Sound Right? Any other thoughts?

I had the same type of thing happen with my car... It turned out to be a hairline split on the UNDERSIDE of the hose, that I just couldn't see from a cursory inspection. My mechanic found it when he decided to replace the hose anyway..

Interesting, good to know. I think maybe I'll remove the hose this weekend for a better look, but after my Saturday event.

Replace rubber hoses every 4 yrs or so. Rubber dry rots. I like clamps with screw in them, but be careful. There are some that are real junk. They will strip or break. Buy yours at a reputable shop--NAPA or dealer or ??

Good luck.

Check out aging fan belts too, man.

Just replace it. It's not expensive and needs to be done eventually anyway.
