Default Where is the engine block # located?

I am very curious to find out exactly what LS1 I have in my ride.

I say this because I had a new gm replacement motor put in about 2 years ago and I didn't do my research before I had it done. I have no idea if they put a 97 LS1 or if they used a newer model LS1.

I have had it dyno'd with xr-1 borla exhaust and dual cone intake only and came up with about 328rwhp. And yes in know this is not real power. Everyone has suggested to me here that the reading is too high for what my vehicle has done to it.

But, I want to find out the facts on my engine.

Will the number stamped on the block tell me anything? If no, how do I find out?

Thanks.

Well I pulled out my warranty card and it has a part number for the engine.

Engine Part Number: 12455109

I tried looking it up on gmpartsdirect but it only tells me it an LS1 Engine.

Anyone know where to get more info?

thanks.

Were you able to read the 9-digit VIN on the block? If so, what are the numbers?

No I actually looked on the left side at the rear of the heads and there was a 3 digit number stamped on the head and a date on the side. the dat was 3/12/98 and i just did a search with the part number and it shows up as a 97-98 LS1. i think its safe to say that i didn't get lucky with a newer LS1.
