How to tick off your mustang lovin' neighbor
My neighbor just spent 40k re-doing his beautiful '65 fastback. When I brought the 98 home, he came over and we were discussing pros-cons of each. All was well until I reminded him I spent 2/3rds of what he did on his one car for BOTH my C4 and C5. Man did he get bent outa shape. Tried reminding me that the Stang is the only pony car left. So I had to remind him that the 'vette started life a full 11 and 1/2 years before the Stang. And the last time I checked, the Stang wasn't called Americas sports car. That sent his blood pressure through the roof. He stormed off back to his garage. I was !!!!!
He later came back over, with a big grin on his face, when I fired it up to check out the Borla underneath. I KNOW he secretly is a vetter, he just won't let his inner vette out to play!
(He DOES have a BEAUTIFUL 65 'back Stang) If anyone tells him I said so, I'll deny any knowledge of above statement )

Way back before the beginning of time I had a 1965 Mustang Fastback. It had a 289 V8 which I naturally went through from stem to stern. It was an automatic which in my mind was a weak point but with a bit if work it also performed very nicely.
It was white with a red interior and I liked how the back seat folded down flat....You know, so you could carry boards and groceries...
My 65 really was one of those cars I wish I still had. Would I prefer it over my 04 Z06; probably not, but I'd really have to do some soul searching...or come up with the money to have both...
The early Mustangs are legendary, just like the Corvettes...

Good that you two can go back and forth about cars.

A guy around the corner has a black GT. When I had the 98 Z/28, he would pass by at about 3k in first. Since getting the Z16, he goes by very quietly .

Chevy vs Ford? That goes back a few decades! One of the best aspects of capitalism is competetion. Reading about development of new Vettes and the new Camaro have proved interesting-sorta one-upmanship with Ford and Chrysler development. One has to love it. Its the American way!

I wouldn't think that 'vettes having the moniker of America's Sports Car should bug a 'stang driver. They're not a sports car....they're a muscle car. I can't stand 'em myself - never have liked 'em. Ick, ick, ick. Although, I do like their stock exhaust (I HATE to say).

Mustangs are nice!
But Corvettes are GREAT!!!!
My neighbor has a newer GT with pipes, "Racing Gas Cap" (worth at least 50hp), and racing stripes. One day I was driving buy and I stopped to say how nice his car sounded (it really does).
Since then I get waves instead of the 3K drivebys. It helped when I mentioned that I dynoed at 420RWHP.
I do like the new GT's and think they are great cars, just not for me.

Right on. There's room enough in this world for TWO great American cars. It's just that Ford will probably never recoup the magic of the early Mustangs, while Corvettes just keep getting better and better.

As you might tell, many on the Forum were once in the Mustang ranks. For me personally, I always loved the Corvette since I was a kid, and when the C5 came out, I just couldn't resist! I simply outgrew the 9 Mustangs I had owned and raced. My C5 is the best and fastest street car I've ever owned. It just goes to show that the Corvette is America's Sports Car!

Regarding this comment he shouldn't feel bad. His car is appreciating while YOURS are depreciating. I a couple of years the shoe will be on the other foot as far as resale value.

I'd choose a nice '65 fastback over a regular C5 anyday. The C5 is nice, but it's too new to be a classic. But who says you can't own both a Stang and Vette? When the sun's out and the beach is calling my name, the 'vert gets driven as the Z sits.
