You my friend are absolutely correct, she should have gotten 6 months and I hope the Sheriff that released her gets charged with Contempt of court and spends 30 days in his own jail...
Can you imagine if after every court sentence a Sheriff decides; nah, why don't you go home and serve your sentence there!!!!... I mean really, WTF!!

Here in Ohio, spinning the tires is called "rapid acceleration", the ticket is about the same as a regular speeding ticket, 2 points and a small fine.

[QUOTE=Sniper168gr;1560591098]Took the 67 big block out for a ride last night, pulled onto the highway, and accelerated (very quickly) onto the 2 lane road. Needless to say, I was a 55 mph in a few seconds. So... I'm cruising along talking to my son, check in the review mirror and see a patrol car weaving up behind me about 4 cars back. We stop and a light and the LEO pulls up REAL close behind me (State LEO). I'm thinking $%@$@^ I'm about to get pulled over, but the LEO has his head up near the windshield and is checking out the car!!!

We made a left at the next light and he continued straight... close one!!!

My very first ticket, California some 25+ years ago in my 165HP '78 Z28, was a 1st-2nd chirp (single leg spider gears), earning me an exhibition of speed ticket. I was also puzzled by the chorus of horns when I was pulled over.

They were jealous of you because you have a Corvette. It's the same thing that motivates punks to vandalize expensive cars, they know they can't afford to drive such a fine vehicle so they key it or slash its tires instead. Those that beeped at you were thinking "ha, serves you right for having such a nice car that I wish I could afford but can't." You should feel sorry for them.
I don't know what part of the world you are in, but around here its also illegal to use your car's horn unless you are warning someone of danger. It's a noise violation. So they beep with joy to see you pulled over for this crap while at the same time they are committing an equally innocuous traffic violation?

Trust me - there are PLENTY of LEO's that understand and have hi-po cars themselves......they're not ALL bad guys. Many of them have Vettes, and there are many LEO's on this forum.
My suggestion - go buy a lottery ticket, because today was your lucky day. And - take his suggestion seriously, do it at the track!

Sounds like you met one of the understanding and good guys on this event. I really appreciate the job LEOs do for us and I appreciate "much more" the ones that have a good heart and cut breaks from time to time.

He wasn't talking about he LEO's being jealous. He was referring to the cars passing by and honking their horns. LEO's here make damn good money and can definately afford to drive a Vette.

I found out here in VA, spinning your tires even in a parking lot is RECKLESS DRIVING, which can carry license suspension, or jail time, if the offense is serious enough!

"speed exhibition" and 6 months loss of your right to drive? (yes I said right, that is my belief, but lets not go into that one :-)...for breaking traction for 3 seconds? Sounds ridiculous to me. I've seen cops to much worse even when they aren't chasing someone down. Having you pulled over on the side of the road for 15 minutes is much more of a threat to public safety than you chirping your tires.
Roasting the tires for 3 seconds is not "chirping" the tires. And, as someone else posted, if someone did it in front of your car you would be pissed.

i got one of those tickets when i was 18 yrs old. he was directly behind me at a light. was dark and i was young and dumb that day. when some of the smoke cleared i saw his blue lights coming thru the smoke. he gave me a ticket for careless driving. almost $300 back then 20 yrs ago. scolded me for a few minutes. told me it could be much worse and be a reckless driving creating me a whole new set of problems with my DL and insurance for several yrs. i learned its not the best thing to do at a light that night many yrs ago. 3 seconds is plenty of time to get squirley and loose some control with one of these.
not that my gas pedal doesnt see some trauma some time

I'm having a hard time too!
I just got my 402 running and it seems to have an excess of power. I've spun the tires in 3rd gear from a roll once or twice.
I think Ive got to start my old mantra again. I just repeat "how much are these tire, how much are these tires......" It seems to bring me back to being my slow old self.

Police officers have many ways to send messages, directly ie: a ticket, or indirectly, a friendly warning. As many have stated it was a lucky day for an indirect warning. I have seen many 3 second burnouts get out of control in 2 seconds. Especailly in a Vette.
