Hi C5 guy and gals. I usually hang out on the C4 forums but I've been thinking about my next car and did a check on 2001 Z06's. I used Auto Trader and looked within a 200 mile range of my location. I came up with 5 Z06's, one highly modded and asking $37k, the rest appeared stock and asking price was in the $24-25 range, which is about the same as the non Z06 cars. So, my question is, no premium for the Z06, or was this just an unusual sampling. Thanks in advance.
The z06 should be a little more than a coupe (same year, same miles same condition) but the used car market right now is ruff. What I mean is its a buyers market NOW, hurry and get a good deal on a under priced z06.
Probably because the market is smaller for the Z. Maybe the typical buyer doesn't like the cheaper seats and body (no targa top, old-style antenna and smaller cargo area) than the coupe. Even though the perfomance of the Z is better, I'm guessing the performance of the coupe is plenty good for most buyers. Perhaps they think people that buy the Z beat on the car more than the typical coupe buyer.
^^ I agree that the Z has a more limited market than the coupe or the vert. Just look at the original sales records. Only about 7000 Zs a year were sold.
I don't agree with the cheaper comments above, having owned both a Z and a targa coupe. The Z is for the performance minded enthusiast, which is only a small percentage of the population. The coupe and the verts offer good performance, as well as a number of creature comforts and practicality that the Z does not.
Since I recently sold my Z and coupe I probably in a good position to know the current market. The Z was a difficult sell even though it was low miles (14,500), stock, and in pretty good shape. Took about 2 months to sell the car and did not get as much as I would have liked.
The coupe sold in 5 days. Yes, 5 days. It was an 01 Speedway White coupe with low miles, A4, with a bunch of low key but nice mods. Got a pretty good price for the car also.
