What octane gas do you use?
I've never used anything other then 93. When I can't afford the gas or worry about the difference between the price of 87 and 93 in a full tank of gas. It's time to get rid of the Vette
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
That's the highest I see in my area. One time I accidentaly put 87 in it, I had just filled up a car I had sold(I work at a car dealership), and my mind was just in the 87 octane mode. I didn't realize til it was half full, and it didn't like the lower octane. My car was tuned with 91, so that's what I put in it.
given that Regular is $2.99 per gallon and Supreme is $3.19 per gallon. I just fueled up this morning in Carlsbad, California and used 15 gallons.
15 gals. X $2.99= $44.85 for Regular gasoline
15 gals. X $3.19= $47.85 for Supreme gasoline
Regular Gasoline= Driving Miss Daisy
Supreme Gasoline= accelerating and driving with reckless abandon
If my calculations are correct the difference in price is .20 cents per gallon and I used 15 gallons.
15 gals. X .20 cents= $3.00 more money? I guess it really depends on how many times a week you are filling up. At roughly $3.00 per tank I probably won't fill up again for another week at least. Somebody else check my math as I am a tired old man! I might just stand corrected so be kind!

But yea thats about right.

As far as your question - how low you can go before it starts to ping - I think the computer compensates for the cheap, low octane gas and you won't hear a ping.
So, just keep running the cheapest, lowest octane gas you can get and when your engine stops running you know you've hit bottom!
BTW: Thanks for the correction
