Thanks for all the great comments, folks!

I went for the 1/4" with the extra insulation adhered to it. I was concerned about the headers not clearing. The tops of the O2 sensors touched the insulation so I wouldn't go any thicker if you get the same one and have clearance concerns. Definitely stiffened the car up nicely. I drove it for about an hour and didn't notice any discomfort from heat at the tunnel area but I forgot to check the heat issue. Guess it worked because I didn't notice any heat to complain about.

I had forgotten I included that in the pic. My bench chair worked great as a TT rest. Thinking about sending that pic to one of our vendors as a new combination-product idea.

Yes, the lift is bolted down. I post a thread about this with pics of the job a while back. I have seen several pics of people doing just what you describe about lifting the body and chassis off the drivetrain but haven't had the pleasure of trying that yet. Typically, I've seen that done with two-posters though.

And thanks for taking me the time to give me your advice, Chuck. You were exactly correct that this was the way to go. Much appreciated.

I would like to get one becase my right leg gets hotter than heck after cruising. But I don't want to justify something like that unless there is some sort of performance gain.
Check out my first response in this post.

I tune my cars with EFI Live. The problem I had was that ver. 7.4 had slightly changed the way the gear update dialogue worked so I emailed Paul at EFI Live and he pointed me in the right direction. In the meantime, I had put a corrected tune in using the previous version.

Can you explain why the torque tube was removed? Was it necessary?
I recently helped with an A4 install and the tube remained on the car.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks Patches.

I'm now convinced to get one of these lifts for my garage. I just got done doing the mechanical portion of converting from an auto to a stick shift in my 2001 coupe (soon to be converted to an FRC). DR Phil is helping me with the wiring and PCM re-programming.

Having a lift would have saved me days of work.

I was going to leave the TT in and pull the tranny and diff out as a unit but decided it might be more of a pain trying to line up the stubby front of the converter with the flexplate with the TT on the car than off. As I mentioned, I had never pulled an A4 drivetrain apart and I wanted to take the safest route on this step. In the whole scheme of things, I don't think it's much more work to pull the the TT out with the diff/tranny.

Patches,

Awesome job on the install and the great write up. I am also upgrading to a 3:42 soon. Can you tell me where to set the new shift points. I have an 03 A4 Coupe.

Thanks, Nouman. She drove the car today and is, indeed, very happy! She had the perma-grin on big time. Got the big from her afterward.

What an outstanding post! Excellent pictures and it really looked like a clean install. You have to love having a lift and the right tools to do the job, makes things ALOT easier!

I did the same exact mods myself, with the exception of the 3200 stall and I didn't do the ceramic coating on the headers. I went for the 3400 stall Fuddle. I did all the work without the aid of a lift and I didn't drop the torque tube. It all went together pretty well, just takes a little more patience and finesse without the lift. I was very careful with the routing of the brakes lines, wiring harness, etc. Just took my time. I'm very happy with the results.

Nice write up. Great workmanship as always.
