Default Bicycle in Cargo Area

I have a 00 coupe and want to purchase a nice mountain bike. However, I want to be able to take the bike with me to different trails. Anyone fit a mountain bike in the cargo area? I assume removing a tire or something would be necessary, but before I spend the money on a bike I wanted to see if this has been done.

Thanks!

Try and find out the length of the bike with the front wheel off - there is a lot of room in the coupe and it may just fit.

A good bike dealer will trial fit it for you. You will probably need to remove the rear wheel also but that's easy.
You also may want to look into a cargo liner to avoid dirt and grease from chain.

A moutain bike will fit with the front tire removed. I move the passenger seat forward a bit and have an extra towel for it to sit on. Works fine.

I've found a local bike dealer who is more than willing to work with me on finding a bike. I'm glad to hear others have accomplished this task.

I realize I can get creative and fit whatever I would want into the back... but sometimes someone has already been creative and can save me the effort!

BrianWe... can you have a passanger in the car with your bike in the back?

Thanks for the info everyone.

CPapin,

I never had a passenger when I had my Bike in the car so I just moved the seat all the way forward. I didn't tip the seat forward so the worst case would be a bit crowded for the passengers legs. I'm sure you wouldn't have to move the seat all the way to the front, but then you might want to cover it with a towel in case anything rubs. I did that for the center console too.

If it doesn't work with the bike you want, I'd recommend a hitch-mounted rack. I have one for my DD, and wouldn't hesitate to do the same on the vette. (Receivers usually aren't too obvious.)

I can fit my road bike in my Z. I do have to take both wheels off but if fits back there fine. I lay the handle bars down in the center compartment area. I still have room for a passenger. It should be easier to fit in a coupe.

What I meant was that I don't feel that a Vette should be used to transport bikes. I would use my daily driver for something like that. I am trying to keep my Vette in mint condition. Obviously you can put whatever you want in your car, but I have too much respect for mine to do that.

I meant no offense. If you guys like to use your Vettes for hauling, more power to you.

Believe it or not, There are companies that make folding bikes! I don't remember the brand, but i saw one once that, once folded, fit in the storage compartment on an RV. Wasn't much bigger than a large suitcase! Try a google seach for folding bicyles!

"Hope you got a big trunk. Cuse I'm going to put my bike in it!" (40 year-old virgin)

Here it is.

http://www.civilianlab.com/

First hit products and then folding bikes.

I know them, great people and the bikes fit in the cargo area with ease. We took it out of his GTI and put it right into the vette.

I have done this no problem at all it was one with about a 21 inch frame. Plus depending on the size of the frame that you are getting will also be a factor.

Is the Vette your only car? Thats what I have a truck for, my mountain bike usually gets pretty dirty on the trails, and so do I. No way I would subject my vette to that. Sweating on the seats, bud on the floor, grease from the chain, grass and whatnot from the tires

I have a large frame F2000 hard tail & F700 soft tail cannondale. They both fit in the back (not at the same time) with the front and back wheels off . Take the well off place them down first then the frame rests on the wheel well keeping them off the bike wheels. I just put a old sheet over the carpet. Works great. I haven't tried this in my new ZO6 though, less room to get the bike in and out.

I used to put my MTN bike in the back (FS Jamis Dakar XLT), but the mud started to get to me...I opted for a 1 1/4" receiver hitch and a hitch rack.

Get lots of from other drivers when I roll down the road with the bikes on the hitch rack.

Maybe not an option for you, but I like it quite a bit.

I transport my bike in the cargo area but I need to remove both bike wheels to get it to fit. I carry a blanket to cover the carpet and then lay me bike down. I place towels on top of the bike and place my wheels on the towels. Many people are very surprised to see me pull a mountain bike from the Vette and they let me know it. "That's a nice red truck you have there!" "Is that really a mountain bike in the back of a Corvette?!"
