now that you have all the tools and know exactly what to do, would a case of your choice get one's calipers done?

I always start a project with the intention of taking lots of pics for a proper writeup, but never have the patience after the first few pics.

Well, I really don't drink...I'm more of a ice cold milk lover. Only problem is it gives me hellacious gas! Now a case of filets might get my attention...!

Isn't the C5 one of the world's sexiest cars? It's full of nice curves and no angular surfaces, just like something else I could mention.

I agree 100%!

I remember when the first C4's came out. Hated them. It took them a long time before they grew on me and I've seen a lot of them, but the 1996 was the one I would have actually bought. However, once the C5's came out, I was in love from the word go. I've had countless offers to sell her but she ain't going anywhere. I see this car becoming a classic one day and I will have one until the day I die. The lines are so soft and fluent. They flow like a gentle breeze through an open plain. It reminds me of looking at Tina Turner's legs.

C6's do absolutely nothing for me. They remind me of looking at Rosie O'Donnell.

Default just read you post.....

great write up. some might complain that it was too long, but I thought that you did a great job, comical some too. I'd rather read all this than somebody write a how-to saying, 1st, you take the calipers off, then you paint them, let dry, then you put them back on, the end. again,
Good Job........

Nice job A.J.! I like the way you were able to keep your sense of humor throughout. Adds that extra touch.

As I was reading through, I couldn't help but be reminded of the first time I pulled my calipers off on mine. Now, I have done brake jobs on other cars in the past and they were not particularly difficult. I was fully aware of the torque spec (125 ft lbs! )on C5 caliper mounting brackets, but I still had a biotch of a time breaking the bolts loose. Even using a small cheater bar on the ratchet handle. The problem is really compounded by the fact that you just can't get much leverage when you have the car on jack-stands. If it was up higher off the ground, like on a lift, it wouldn't have been so bad. I finally figured a way to solve the problem. I placed the ratchet, without any cheater bar, and got it positioned correctly. I then used a small scissor jack and raised it up to apply pressure directly to the ratchet handle and started jacking. Worked like a charm. Fortunately, I was able to position myself well enough to be able to use my torque wrench come time to re-tighten the bracket bolts. The torque wrench is much longer and gave me enough leverage to tighten to 125 ft lbs.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that little jack technique as it worked for me in a pinch. Next time I'm going to have an impact gun for removing those bolts.

EXCELLENT IDEA LoneStar!!!

I will add this to the post! That would have saved me some cracked paint and 2 days of work. I tried to use the cheater bar also but still couldn't get enough leverage due to the space limitations. Man, what a time I had. I almost crapped in my pants trying to get those bolts off!

Thanks again for the input!

Thanks again to the rest of you fella's for reading my long post and adding your input. This place has helped me tremendously and I'm glad that I can give something back.

That's a cruel thing to say about any car. Even a Yugo.
