I got some used wheels and tires from a forum member. He lives in Texas im in Toronto. The tires are michelin pilot sports. Canada customs inspected my items and said they wont release the tires because there from france and there used. What the hell is wrong with this story??
Sounds like something you have to work out with the customs officials. You probably only have one of two choices ...
* Pay some kind of fee (tariff) to import them into the country.
* Have customs return the shipment to the US and you will have to work with the seller to get some kind of refund as you were unable to complete the deal.
Yep, you'll need to pay the tariff because they are not made in the US. If they were made in the US then NAFTA would apply. I suspect you'll have to hire a Broker to look after the paperwork for you, or go to the border yourself. Call Customs and they should be able to tell you what to do.
I live in Windsor and we have two border crossings (bridge and tunnel). I was also told I could not bring used tires into Canada from the US. I turned around and went through at the bridge and they let me through. It was so long ago I really don't remember the reason they turned me around. I would think it's a safety issue.
