Default Rearend Leak?

I took the C5 out and noticed that I've got a wet spot under the rear end...I assuming its the tranny. Anyone have to deal with this and is it a DIY task?

Check your differential, they are notorious for leaking.

I've occasionally found a spot on the garage floor. Yet I've had the level checked and it's ok. I recall reading somewhere on this forum that with spirited driving the fluid will sometimes exit the vent.

Check the fluid since the transmission and differential are together. Thin, redish fluid is transmission (although burnt fluid can turn brownish and smell burnt). Thick, brownish, foul smelling fluid is differential.

If you just filled up your differential, you can get some leakage thru the vent.

Could be the seal where the drive axle goes into the differential. Look on the left side (most common area) and see if there is some fluid leaking there. Mine has leaked three times - the dealer finally got it fixed I think.

Mine was leaking on the driver's side last spring. Opportunity was knocking as I have an A4 with the 2.73 gears at that time. Changed out the whole unit with Z06 3.42 gears at ECS and I am still smiling. Don't know what I'll do if the oil pan starts to leak

Took mine in for the 5th time last week. The dealership contacted GM and spoke with an engineer that claimed there have been diferentials that leaked from the case itself and not the seal. The dealership I'm working with things this may be the case also because 4 different techs have tried to stop the leak and none have had success so far. At GM's suggestion they are replacing the differential this week and will try it again. The extended warranty co has agreed to pick up the cost. I only mention this because there are several of us who have had the car in many times for the same repair and the leaks seem to continue.

Its a pretty common occurance. Mine leaked at 65 miles. Took two tries by the dealer to fix it. But I have 25K now and it stayed fixed.

Have you changed any fluid recently? I was leaking diff fluid for about a week when I changed mine, probably from overfill....
