Default Z06 Screens

I purchased some screens and they have two sided tape to hold them in place. My question is I want to be able to remove them to clean behind them. I have thought about using velcro to hold them in place so they can be removed. Has anyone done this or does anyone have any better ideas? I love this forum and look at it quite often and have always received help. Thanks for your assistance. Ron

I've often thought of the "velcro" thing also. I bought my C5 with Z06 screens on, and have thought about cleaning behind them and "fog light" lenses also, but haven't made a move on it yet. Want to see also what's said here.

I did the velcro two years ago and have never had a problem. I never bothered removing them though, until a deer hit me that is. One came out but was not damaged. Insurance paid for a new set which helped with the deductible. I am getting ready for a full detail and look forward to putting them back in. I like the look so much better with them installed. My accident was late last fall, and I have not detailed since the fresh paint.

I installed mine on my 99 coupe with industrial velcro (Wal-Mart). The trick to getting them in place correctly is to lay thin cardboard (e.g. poster board) between the halves of the velcro so they don't "connect" until the screen is properly placed. Then slide out the cardboard and they will bind together. To take the screens out for cleaning, use a thin scraper or puddy knife to slide between the velcro halves to separate them, you can use several scrapers/puddy knives to do all the contact points or try sliding cardboard into the space to keep them apart. Once you have the scrapers/cardboard between all the halves, the screens should slide out for cleaning. Reverse the installation process to get them back in. Hope this helps.

Exactly.
As an added note, use a plastic scraper/putty knife.
I installed mine back in '01, and they're still firmly attached. Never been removed.
Install 1/2 on the screens, test for fit and mark where the other 1/2 will be attached to your Vette.

I did the velcro thing too. the trick is removing the two sided goo without getting blisters on your fingers. How did you guys remove that stuff? I had to remove it in order to properly place my velcro.

WD40, hair dryer, and a tool like a putty knife or plastic window tint 'squigee'(not sure on spelling)

I put mine in with velcro YEARS ago. I take them out when I wash the car. Plus, you can go back to the original look if you want (but I ALWAYS put them back in after washing - it's the look I like).

I just measured to figure out where to put the other side of the velcro.

Truth be known, I took my screen housings appart, pulled out the screens, painted them with Rust-O-Leum aluminium colored paint then glued the housings back together. - I also painted the brake duct screens.

I've had the screens on my car for about 5 years and have always used the velcro to keep them in place. No problem with them coming lose and I can get behind them to clean. That's the way I would go rather than two sided tape.

Awesome idea! Just received screens to put on my coupe. Was a hair disappointed when I saw the only thing that will be holding them in is a few strips of 1/16 inch thick (thin) double sided tape. I knew there had to be a better way.
Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, I purchased the screens some time ago and was wondering what the best solution was to allow cleaning. this is a very creative yet easy fix. Thanks

3m makes an adhesive removal fluid. It works like a champ and doesnt hurt the finish.

"Patches" posted a tech tip a long time ago about the velcro thing and I did it several years ago. I cut 2 pieces of stiff plastic from one of those notebook type binders to slip inbetween the velcro on top and bottom and it works perfect...
