Had the Goodyear GS D3S put on yesterday..Man what a quieter and smoother ride!!..I have a small compressor and plug kit in the trunk now...Anyone on the fence about dumping runflats: DO IT!! You will also save at least 5 to 600 bucks...
I dumped mine this month also but went with Falken 452s biggggg difference in noise. A plug kit, small compressor and a jack out of my real old chevette works just fine for me.

I did the same thing in September last year and replaced them with the GS D3S as well. To say the least, I was astounded by the improvement.

I am glad you are happy... but wouldn't you expect a smoother, quieter ride from almost any new tire (run-flat or not) compared to an old tire that needed replacing?

Runflats have a stiff sidewall so the ride will always be harsh compared to a regular tire..Some runflats are a bit quieter (Firestone or Michelin)..
Looking to do the same things can not wait untill i need tires.
Can anyone tell me what is about a good tread depth to replace? When I bought my Vette which had 21,000 miles on it they seemed about half the depth of the new C6's tires it was sitting next to it. Do new tires like these not seem like that have much tread to start with. This might be a dumb question. The tires not have about 24,000, whats a good number to get out of a set of stock RFs?

Depending on your needs this could be 'Penny wise, Dollar foolish' advice. A possible blowout that shreds a tire and tears into a fender or a trip up a flatbed resulting in a scraped up lower fascia requiring repainting is all that need be said (not to mention all the inconvenience, car downtime, rental costs if your Vet is a DD, etc..).
e6bailey, My car had 33k miles on it when I replaced the tires..The fronts were bald on the inner part of the tires but the back still had plenty of tread left..I decided to replace all 4 at once since they were 9 yrs old already and I moved away from runflats..

I have been driving for some 37 years and have never had a blow out flat tires yes I think your chances are better at being struck by lighting than having catastrophic failure of a tire while driving.
I also dumped the run flats about 2 months ago. I can hear again!!! Wet traction is great. This feature was a "must" because I live in Oregon and it rains once in a while here.
I dumped my run flats as well last sept. I went with Kuhmos and what a reduction in noise ( vert ) and better traction. What air compressers did you people go with? I have yet to get one.
Getting rid of the runflats was the 1st thing I did to my car. No regrets. I can buy at least 2 sets of better performing tires for the price of one set of OEM runflats.
I changed to the GSD3 about a year and a half ago at 20k miles. In the 12k miles since then I have had 3 flat tires. One of which I needed to use the Conti-Comfort fix a flat kit. Other 2 times tire did not go flat/lose air until I was safely parked in my garage. Both times I was able to add air and drive to a tire shop to repair the leak
I think the GSD3s do handle a little bit better. I drive my car as more of a cruiser than a canyon runner so the better handling makes a difference maybe 1% of the time.
90% of my driving is with the top down so noise isn't a big deal for me.
All in all I think I will try the Michelin Run flats next time.
