If you like doing bolt on, go-fast mods, then the 2000C5 is the best year because it had the biggest cam out of all the C5's other than the Z06's. This is a big help because you can easily put on a Z06 intake manifold and if you plan on putting on headers and dont plan on going with a bigger cam, you will end up a few ponies above all the rest of the bolt on C5's due to the larger cam in 2000.

Thanks alot guys for your input. It looks like 2000-02 is going to be my most likely choice. Now finding a decent one 20K and under is going to be the task. Cant imagine any good ones sitting on the stellarship lots.....lol

2002 or newer. 2002-2003 if you are going to boost it.

in general ....I wouldn't be to concerned with the mileage if the vette has been maintained and the price is right! You should have no problem finding a clean 97 or 98 in the mid teens. Keep researching and learning.

The 2001 hand the most improvements. Hopefully any bugs were worked out before the 2002 was made plus the 2002 ZO6 was bump up to 405HP. I have a recently purchased one owner with 56000 miles in almost new condition. Could not ask for one better. Had original window sticker, brochure, etc. Z06 came only with hardtop and six-speed. Very Happy

I'll chime in on this. I fully agree with the low milage, newest model with the equipment you want. I found an '02 vert with 24K miles; was garaged most of its life. Been a great ride and looks fantastic. I didn't originally want a vert but there's nothing like driving around on a beautiful day (like today!) with the top down. Keep looking, you can find what you want.

just be aware of the reworking done on the line for 2001. Some parts are now unobtainable for the early builds. I have heard that parts made of unobtainium can get expensive, since the top bidders will always be guys with more money invested in their car than yours, making the new high price logical.

I would make sure the top goes down on a 2003. The badges say anniversary on them, making my car super special.

Even my 97, for the money is one of the best cars I've owned. Just waiting for the first year C5 to mean something great.
